Has anyone seen my Empire?

Is anyone in charge of the "New Texas Republic" Empire? If so, please let me know where I can go for Empire related functions, (beer blasts) etc and/or cyber activities.

I am a newb to Gal Civ and have only been playing for a couple of months (Magic Online the virtual CCG lost it's league play ability in early March so I picked up Gal Civ and have never looked back).

I am a veteran of MoO 1 & 2 and MoM so I am not a complete hack.

Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I can tell, there is just you and one other person alive in the New Texas Republic. That person is RobfoMaaus, from the statbot data. You can see for yourself at http://altmeta.galciv.org Link and that person had not submitted games for two months before just recently.

Sorry, but it doesn't seem to be much activity in the New Texas Republic.

We of the Diplomats have an active members policy. Come check us out at http://diplomats.galciv.org Link

Not at the moment. Unfortunately, the only senator (empire administrator) is inactive. Right now this thread appears to be only empire-related thing for NTR.
I'd stay put for a month or so to see if any other members are lurking the forums.

In the mean time, feel free to visit the other empires' threads in this forum. We don't "bite" much!

Dude, you're playing on Masochistic. No-one's going to call you a newb.
We'd be glad to have you in the Fellowship (http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=329 Link), but the other empires are good too.

Thanks, for the links (the statbot one was esp. helpful).

I feel like a newb because the learning curve on the game is longer for me than most games as I only had the "manual" at first and didn't know that you must go to user hosted websites for detail information. The tech cost/tree from the Orion site would have been helpful before my first 10 or so games.

This is an awesome game, I just would like to know more about certain aspects. I have no clue about the scoring system other than the more difficult and larger the campaign the higher points (duh). Oh and Military wins count for more points.

I went to the Guardian's website (excellent) and noticed that Greldon's reseach guide and mine were virtually the same up to the mid-game. I take that as a good sign as Greldon is much more experienced than me.

I will stick with the New Texas Republic for another month and will switch if I am the Lone (Texas) Ranger.

If anyone can send me some scoring tips it would be appreciated but scoring is my secondary concern after learning more about the game and enjoying it.

Thanks,
Burt

Also, since you mentioned the Statbot being interesting, here is the main one, I think I directed you to a alternative one we use to show pure scores. Here is one for the whole Top 25, active or not. http://statbot.galciv.org Link

Since you are playing 1.2, you will need to play Gigantic Maso to get a shot even at a 60K perfect game, and win by military conquest. Altarian Prophecy gives far better points, besides adding two new races, and giving a map editor. On AP, you can play a Huge/Alliance/Maso and get 60K readily.

I can state quite truthfully that the help and support section of the Senate Halls, run by my good friend Peace Phoenix, has quite a lot of good information. I would recommend you checking it out.

As for your empire, just be happy. That, and Playing For Fun, that is what matters. I am quite happy.

The extent of my scoring knowledge:
Things like 'economy score' and 'military score' are irrelevant to metaverse points.
The bigger the galaxy, the more points you get. (Number of habitable stars in the galaxy doesn't make much difference.)
The harder the difficulty level, the more points you get. Difficulty is higher with harder opponents, or with more opponents. (It's not really more difficult with more opponents - easier if anything - but the game thinks it's harder.) The reason Altarian Prophecy players score more is that they can have up to seven opponents.
Winning before the year 2190 gives you a 50% score penalty.
You tend to score a bit more for playing longer, researching more techs, and building wonders, but it's not really that important.
Military victory scores the most. Alliance scores an OK amount. Culture wins score poorly. Tech wins are even worse. Note that if you switch off cultural victory and conquer the entire galaxy with culture, it counts as a military victory.

Another side note: If you switch off the tech win option, you can research all of the way up and not have to worry about the game ending.

Also, more evil civs net more points, because of the added problem of them demanding money and just generally being annoying. Setting up a good vs. evil game is fun.

Thanks to all for the information!

I will continue to enjoy the game and post whatever score I get. I am not used to a game's scoring system being so mysterious and not clearly defined. I will just rack it up as another game anomaly.

Hey Mr. Nuts.

Where about in Texas do you call home? Greldon and I are both in Austin.

The scoring system is the mystery of the Meta. We've got a good part of it down, but the base formula remains quite unknown.

And I'm sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a recruitment thread.

If you have any other questions, you will find the people here quite willing to help.

This thread just made me had to say, "Dude, where's my car?" That is all. Thank you.

Lothmorg,

I am a displaced Texan. I was born in Ft. Worth and lived there and in Houston for many years. I live in St. Louis, Missouri now.

I know Austin very well as I had family there and made numerous trips to the loop (as in Guadeloupe Ave.). Austin is a hell of a fun town. I only wish I hadn't passed on seeing Stevie Ray Vaughan perform (he died much too young).

I especially like the Mexican food there, Chuy's on Lamar and the now closed El Mat.

I get down to Texas usually once or twice a year as half of my family still lives down there.

Have a good one!

Burt

Yes, my question does resemble the line "Dude, where's my car?. I have a somwehat complex sarcasm system for dealing with varying amounts of frustrating situations. That was my second lowest level with almost no sarcasm.

What I really wanted to say was "God forbid someone actually MAINTAIN their Empire".

The last remark was a bit more to moderate on my scale. From there, it gets much much worse. Since this is for the pursuit of fun I didn't see the need for sarcasm that bites.

I am also reminded of a song called "Where is my mind?"

Starts with:

With your feet in the air
and your head by the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse,
and there's nothing in it
and you'll ask yourself:

Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?

Aww Nuts,

It's players like you that make empires successful! People who want to participate are the most important people here.

Everyone likes a good limerick, right.

There once was a "man" namd Hurly
Who though he was both big and burly
When in actual fact
He had no cojones intact
And always wished he was a girly

I am signing off on this one. Keep on thinking that you're both clever and wise. (Sheesh, I have seen Aggies that were smarter than this)
