The Mozilla Browser:
One of the next generation of browsers, this browser is a branch off of the Netscape technology. Netscape is pretty much at the limit it can evolve to, and Mozilla takes the code from Netscape, and it goes beyond what Netscape can achieve. Some of the features of this include a composer, e-mail software, pop-up blocker, and tab browser ability. While these are also in Netscape, the biggest advantage of Mozilla is that it takes the benefits of Netscape, and combines them with the comparatively few (from this writer’s opinion) benefits of Internet Explorer, and combines them into one. Another quality product to better your internet experience.
For a discussion of this technology, we invite to the Diplomat's Senate Halls here: Link . Here we are discussing the Firefox browser, also from Mozilla.

Hey VoT: I got one for you.
I need some software, preferably free, that can recover compressed files from an NTFS file system, that magically registers as FAT12 and is unrecognizable on any Windows XP computer.
Think you can find something to help me out?
Thanks.

Good lord. I'd have to look for that myself. Never heard of such a program.
T3C, do you know of one?

It's not often I ask for help. You see the ones I do ask for help on.

Yeah, you aren't kidding. I'll look around, but I don't know what I'll find.

It's appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, not sure exactly what you're looking for here.
Have you tried NT Recover V1.0 or Remote Recover V2.0 (very similar, but V2 can be used through TCP/IP whereas V1 is serial link only). You can download a free read-only version of either from www.sysinternals.com
NTFSDOS could also help, but you really need the pro version (which costs) to do anything useful with it. Free version available again from sysinternals.
Another site to try for useful utilities if they give you no luck is www.fileguru.com, but it can be pretty hard to find stuff on there.
Good luck.

Tried that. It does not want to work because it reads it as FAT12 - floppy disk format.
I'll check out Fileguru and NT Recover.
Thanks!

Yuck. There is a utility out there called NTFSFlp which can get round floppy format problems with NTFS. I don't know how much use it would be for your situation, but may be worth a try if nothing else works.

NT Recover did not work, and I'm still weeding through FileGuru.
I'll give NTFSFlp a shot. Thanks again.

Posting here as well as the Raven's Claw.

Yeah!
Good news (for me)! I fixed my hard drive.
Being the extreme cheapskate that I am, I was unwilling to open my dusty wallet to do something that I should be able to do for free.
Thanks to Google, I found the tips I needed to restore the backup copy of the MFT on my NTFS partition.
Yeah! All 50GB of data is safe!
These are the tools I used:
FindPart: Nice utility to verify that my data was actually still in one piece (so to speak). Link
TestDisk: The utility that actually found and restored the backup MFT. Link
These were lifesavers! And - they were FREE.
