by Citizen Lucian Gyiira - 8/26/2004 6:03:22 PM

-Beginnings-

“Final check complete. We can land them whenever you’re ready, sir.”

Lucian Gyiira – nicknamed “Fleetlord Atvar” by some, the reasons still unknown – turned to the Vice Captain of his (first ever) fleet. Very young, this eighteen-year-old male human could easily be mistaken for a lowly Ensign. However, he was a fairly established member (albeit former membership) of the Midwestern Confederation’s frontier colonization efforts. For a number of months, he had led victories in small and medium sectors – three or four times he took an entire quadrant – filled with fairly below-average aliens. Certainly, this was not a very impressive achievement for most officers, but considering his age it was truly remarkable.

“Good. Prepare to launch the survey teams onto the planet’s surface,” he said. An adventurous gleam entered Gyiira’s boyish, almost innocent brown eyes. “I’ll be on the mission as well.”

Recently, Gyiira had decided to depart from the Midwestern Confederation and make an attempt of his own at forming an empire. Certainly, helping one of the top ten empires of the galaxy take frontier planets was interesting, but there was something missing. Something that young Gyiira couldn’t have as a frontier colonizer – the rush of building something from the ground up, the feeling of accomplishment as that said something became larger and grander and more worth looking at. He would never find that working for the Confederation, and so he had resigned his position as Frontier Exploration and Colonization Officer.

“But sir, that’s unwise. If there is anything dangerous down there, and you got hurt, then what would we do?”

A long pause.

“I suppose you have a point,” Gyiira mumbled miserably. He had been most looking forward to exploring. “Send them down now, without me.”

Since resigning, he had gathered together a group of people willing to start a new life on a new world and help get it off the ground. A number of low-level officers who had served under him during the X-716239K Quadrant conquest (the longest, most arduous, most boring of all his missions) had offered to join him, leaving behind their jobs (and bringing their families) along for the trip. Using the combined credits of all the colonists and officers, including Gyiira himself, a small fleet of colonization ships and a couple small destroyer vessels were purchased. They were ready.

“So, sir, what shall we name the planet if it’s habitable for us?” asked the Vice Captain. Gyiira looked over at her, blinking softly as he smiled. The name was one he had been waiting to use for a most incredibly long time as the capital of his – his – empire.

“It will be called Garbonia, and it will be where we begin a long, exciting journey.”

- - - - - -

The planet itself was most habitable in the end, and thus the Dominion of Garbonia was founded. From there, the Dominion went on to culturally dominate its small surrounding sector from three small alien nations – the Ordenian Empire, the Riddla Republic, and the Sverna Imperium. What will the fate of the Dominion be in a galaxy ruled by many enormous empires of incredible strength and power? Only time will surely tell.

I hope you enjoyed that introduction story to my new Empire, which I doubt will get too far, but I do intend to have fun with it. There isn’t a central goal of this Empire, either – neither warfare nor culture nor trade. There is however a central theme. You see the emblem of this empire? Its lines of color represent the many shades and colors of creativity in all players of GalCiv. As an empire, I hope the more creative players – those who are able to create a story (doesn’t have to be a good one) for their games and even their empires - will be prominent here. Of course, someone else actually needs to join before anyone other than myself will be “prominent”, but I’m sure I’ll get around that at some point. ^^

Oh yes, and I don’t have a website yet, unfortunately. I just learned HTML a little while ago so, uh, I won’t have one for quite some time…

*Only a few minutes later*

A 2500 meter spheric ship enters the system, approaching the planet.
"The sensores picked signs of intelligent, space traveling live in the system" the first Kosmonautic Ofiicer informed the Captain, a rather short Epsalian (only 1.60m high, but with the same shoulder width)
"Inform the Lordadmiral. It appears someone has been faster"

A few minutes the Head of the USO arrived at the Command Center, in the center of his flagship, the Imperator VI
"So what do we have here?"
"A small vassal, close to the planet, shall we hail it, Chef?"
"Yes all channals!"
A few seconds later the COMsystem spat, on full bandwith
"Welcome to thi region of the Metaverse, this is the Imperator VI, United Stars Organisations. Awaiting your response"
"Hail send, all frequences and known languages."

“Incoming transmission.”

Just wonderful, thought Gyiira as he turned to his communications officer. Already an encounter with aliens, and we’ve just barely arrived. “Who’s it from?”

“It seems to be from something called the ‘United Stars Organization’.”

“Ah, I heard a little about them before I left. Send them greetings from the, uh…” he trailed off. What would their empire be called anyway? “From the newly-founded Dominion of Garbonia. Tell them Lucian Gyiira sends his greetings.” As if they knew who he was. Frontier officers weren’t particularly well-known except amongst other frontier officers.

“Yes, sir.”

The USO, from what little Gyiira had heard, was a specialist organization of some sort. He doubted they would invade or anything of the sort, but it was always best to be prepared. His ship – a heavily-modified Star Hawk-class starship – the Eluria wouldn’t likely be able to hold its own against any really powerful vessels, after all…

- - - - - -

Thanks for the warm welcome. ^_^ And the, er, barrel. O_o

Current sectors under control of the Dominion [in-game, anyway] are basically only Sector G-23486T [the sector which Garbonia itself is in], which isn’t very large [a Tiny map, really]. Sector G-23587M is under infiltration – currently, it seems that culture shall win out there as well.

Current known alien races – all minor – include the Svenra, the Riddla, and the Ordenians. There are two more discovered in Sector G-23587M, but details are sketchy. Current relations are almost entirely friendly with them.

"Sir we are reciving an reply! The head of the Dominion of Garbonia, a Lucian Gyiira is sending greetings"

"Good, send an exploration team to the surface as planed, a 60m Corvette should do it. I hope they won't misinterprete that. I hope we find what we search on this world, the list is getting shorter and shorter..."

Atlan thought to himself:
Lucian Gyiira It has been some time since I've heared that name. A strong man and good officer.
We need to find out what they know and plan, we should send some agents to keep an eye on the new empire.

#7  by Citizen Lucian Gyiira - 8/27/2004 11:56:28 PM

"Now what?" Gyiira asked, looking upon the sensors.

"No idea, sir. It appears they have launched a survey team of some kind, along with a Corvette as guard."

This struck the young commander as odd -- had they come to claim the planet as well? Surely they realized that his new empire had just done so.

"Get it on the screen." A moment later, an image of the Corvette and its transport come on the main screen. "Hmm. Ask them their purposes for descending to the surface of planet Garbonia -- make sure to note to them that it is claimed by us -- and we can determine a course of action from there."

"Yes, Commander," said the Comm. Officer.

"Also, Lieutenant, put maximum power into our shields as a precautionary measure. If any surprise fighting breaks out, I don't want us to take major damage."

"As you wish."

#8  by Citizen Lordadmiral Atlan - 8/28/2004 10:38:19 AM

"They rose their shields, only low capacity" the 1st officer told the Lordadmiral "And they hailed us, to 'inform us about their claim on this world'"

"Ahh so they did misinterprete it. Tell them its a sicence team, on an exploration mission in the southern polar region, they will leave the planet as soon as they found, or found not what we are looking for. Tell them we are not interested ni interfering with their clam, they can have the world." Atlan replied "Oh and make it friendly"

"I see. Send our apologies, then."

"Yes, sir."

Well, that was a disaster avoided. Just a science team. Hopefully things would be going well, then.

"Commander Gyiira, it appears our intial survey of the smaller of the two continents has completed," said the Comm. Officer. Gyiira blinked, then smiled broadly.

"Send the first colony ship down to set up initial colonization efforts. And get some mines and factories up so we can build some ships!"

- - - - - -

Current sectors under Dominion control are G-23486T [Garbonia Sector] and G-23587M [Myuren Sector], both under cultural control.

As yet, the Dominion of Garbonia has met five small alien empires: the Riddla Republic, the Ordenian Empire, the Svenra Imperium, the Narvik Hive, and the Yessen'tak Federation. Current relations with all are at least neutral, however the Yessen'tak is quickly growing in power militarily compared to the others. The Riddla are close friends at the moment of the Dominion, also...possibly allies soon. Little is known about the Narvik Hive -- their hold in Myuren Sector was limited to a single system. However, they seem brutal and without morals.

The Svenra are cruel, but have they hold at least a moral code of some sort. They are very militaristic and were well on their way to fighting the Yessen'tak out of the previous sector before our culture overwhelmed it. I wonder where this little conflict will go in the future?

My complements to Lucian Gyiira, and if you find any Yor out that way, don't be afraid to call us. We're always looking for new sources of Yor to scrap.

Be alert some of those aliens may be Yor by another name.

Hi Lucian Gyiira if you're ever looking for the services of a small group of elite operatives to keep you safe from the nasty aliens, G.R.O.S.S pirates or nasty mutant cats from Laccaile IV or nasty penguins from Geta I or the I leugue or any one else for that matter we're always available.

All we ask in return is....
1.Total control over the government
2.The installment of martial law
3.Everything else really

Awww, but being a protectorate [or vassal, in this case] ruins all the fun of empire building. On a different note, my school year has begun so I have a lot less time to play now...how wonderful.

"Sir Science team reporting."
"On screen!"

The large panorama screen suddenly showd and oversized image of a big, pretty fat man in an clasical white sientists outfit

"Sir we finished our work here."
"Did you find it?"
"No Sir, only another torch and a map pice, like at the other sites. But we found some....
...someone else, looks like an old earthian plate mail, a knights suit complete with something in it. I'm getting a strange feeling when i look at the visor, its like looking into... I can't explain it..."
"I understand, acording to the things this Chief told us this must be a leviatan, leave him alone and bring the map and the torch abord, Imperator out."
Atlan turned to the Com. Officer
"Open a save chanal to Quinto Center, quickly!"
"Open Sir."
"Ahh General, we need a quick fix on the position of the Omega, as soon as you have it, call me! We have something interesting for them here! Imperator out."

Now that can be interesting...

I guess the Dominion will be hitting the "hey, I'm gone for now" thing. I don't want to, but school gets in your way. Not to mention I'm trying to write a scifi book, too. Time is hard to come by...

Welcome to the Dominion of Garbonia computer system database! Please choose your destination.

Exploration accomplishments.

Database of alien races the Dominion currently has contact with:

The Riddla - An insectoid race without real eyes or mouth. They "see" in infrared and "speak" using limited telepathy, thus making short range communications devices completely worthless for them. Not overly aggressive, the Riddla are neutral and are fair traders. Currently, the best relations are had with them. [Represented in-game by the Korx]

The Ordenians - Short, herbivorous reptilian race. This innovative and friendly race was among the first races contacted. They are classified as Chaotic Good, and are currently having tensions with the Svenra. Friendly relations are had with the Ordenians. [Represented in-game by the Drath]

The Svenra - Odd-looking race that seem to combine mammalian, amphibian, and reptilian characteristics into one species. This race is aggressive and a little slow on the uptake. However, when their "uptake" starts going, they become like a snowball rolled down a long hill. Currently classified as a Chaotic Evil race, due to their inherent brutality and lack of certain morals. [Represented by the Torians in-game]

The Yessen'tak - Self-righteous race of beast-like creatures, the Yessen'tak are carnivores-turned-crusaders who are intent on ridding the galaxy of all they percieve as "Evil". Relations are so-so. Despite their seemingly good nature, the Yessen'tak are very much militaristic. Classified as "Pure Good". [Represented in-game by the Drengin]

The Narvik Hive - Not much is known about this elusive race. We know that they are bionic, combining flesh and metal, microchips and braincells into one powerful creature. However, we have yet to see anything of their power. Nothing else is known, but they seem like a brutal, vicious, moralless race. [Represented by the Arceans in-game]

The Ironglobe - Recently, contact was made with a strange empire of machines calling themselves the "Ironglobe". Not much is known about them, but they seem to be a brutal and ruthless race attempting to eliminate all organic life. Comparisons have been made to the Yor, however they appear to be human-made machines that have developed sentience as they are made of the element "trinium" rather than the strange material the Yor are. [Represented in-game by the Yor.....well, what else would I use?]

Current Plans: As yet, war must be avoided with any empires. Currently, two sectors are under domination culturally. The Riddla are most likely to become allies in the future, due to our constant trade with one another. Nearby sectors have as yet been found to be almost completely colonized by nearby empires. The Second Fleet however has recently found a ripe, uncolonized sector nearby...

Sure we care, it just feels lonely in a small empire sometimes.

Awww, thanks. It's great to know I'm part of an endangered species. And yes, little teeny empires can get a tad lonely. Especially since I'm trying to expand my territory and have been getting hit with new game after new game that I've been waiting for. Star Ocean 3 among them...

It's War!

Recent reports from Sector G-25491M, otherwise known as Roak Sector, indicate that the Ordenian Empire, Riddla Republic, and Yessen'tak Federation have all declared war on each other and are fighting all throughout the sector. Currently, the Ordenians are a runaway power in the sector militarily, and it may be soon that both Yessen'tak and Riddla join forces to combat the threat in the sector. As yet, it seems Riddla has the advantage against both in some nearby sectors, though.

Cultural Domination?

Currently, the Dominion is attempting to dominate its opponents in a peaceful manner; using culture to control sectors, essentially. It seems that Yessen'tak holds a strong grip on Roak Sector's culture, but the war with Ordenia is weakening it. Considering that all the influence resources in the sector belong to the Dominion, it's only a matter of time before it becomes culturally dependant on it, right?

But will it really? A runaway military power could easily decimate that possibility! This is why cultural starbases are being constructed deep in Ordenian territory. If the main industrial planets revolt from Ordenia, then it's possible. The future of Roak Sector is still uncertain, however.

The First Fleet returns from G-24123S

The First Fleet finally makes it back to Dominion territory after scouting sector G-24123S for colonizable planets. Unfortunately, the sector is militarily dominated by the Ironglobe Consciousness, who demanded the fleet leave the sector or they would completely wipe it out. The fleet heeded the warning and departed immediately. Why in the galaxy do they call themselves the "Ironglobe", anyway?

Report from Roak Sector

Latest transmissions from the Roak Sector have brought us good news: the sector is now officially under Dominion control!

Therys Quadrant culturally dominated!

In yet another cultural domination, the Dominion has acquired an entire small quadrant and all its resources! Also, it is official -- the Riddla Republic is the first official ally of the Dominion of Garbonia, all due to the events of Therys Quadrant.

Galactic War -- Galactic Peace

The Ordenians and the Yessen'tak have made
peace with one another and the Riddla, meaning that Garbonia won't yet be drawn into war. However, the Ironglobe are being very aggressive and were the top rival of the Dominion in Therys, despite their light hold in the quadrant.

- - - - -

Just as a note for everyone who's actually reading this [all one of you ], a Sector is a Tiny, Small, or Medium map. A Large, Huge, or Gigantic map is a quadrant. This means that the Dominion now controls three Sectors of varying size and a small quadrant, making it pretty formidable for such a brand new empire. This is all IC, of course...

Also, just 10 people stand between this empire and the top 50. Yay! I think. oo And only about 40 or so people stand between me and the top 500.
