I wanted to buy a Apple in the early 80s could not afford one

I played a few games today.

The last one was a real dog must of spent 1 1/2 hours on the game.

I think that is it for me today.

I IZ STILL TRYIN' TO CATCH UP!

Aren't we all. Now I understand some of Lord evil Steves...(cough) problem.

"Ultima" and then "Wizardry".

Ah yes. Long live Lord British. Ever notice the Windows "maze" screen saver looks like the old dungeon walls? What would we do today without auto-map function..walk a step, turn all directions looking for secrets, hand draw the map (rinse and repeat). And don't forget the "Bards Tale" series. Don't recall "Beneath Apple Manor". You must outdate me.

Bard's Tale I, II, III rocked. Other titles that I played include: Standing Stones, Pool of Radiance, Might and Magic etc. I used to sell map and hint books via mail order on the side. I developed and sold character editors (software) also for same. The early games didn't have companion map and hint books so there was a vacuum. BTW, I am still waiting for Prima to come out with a Gal Civ book.

Funny story about Beneath Apple Manor (no save game feature). One morning I went to work my 12 hour Saturday shift at the Data Center. My brother was playing BAM when I left. I got back 13 hours later and he was on the computer playing BAM. I asked "are you playing this game again?". He said no he was still playing it from that morning (13 hours ago). He said he took his meals there so he wouldn't have to stop. It was my first glimpse into the addictive world of computer gaming. I don't play for 13 hours straight(although I have before) but I am definitely hooked on this stuff.

My first computer was a commadore 64, then I had an atari but I can't remember the model#. Then I had an atari 512 and a 1040.

My first ibm type was a PC 4 Mhz clone with a 10 meg hard drive that was 10 inches X 10 inches X 4 inches and it had less than 1 meg of memory (I can't remember exactly)It had a 5 1/4 floppy and one of those old green monochrome moniters. I remember that I could type faster than the computer could process the input. I used this computer for 1 year before I upgraded to a PC XT runing at 8 MHz. That was a fast computer

I just finished my first MASO Huge/rare/tight Alliance Victory for 60K. I will try it again because it was darned easy.

But... it was a very dull game. Nobody was taken over during the entire game, sure there were wars I traded techs for techs like I always did to keep things warm/friendly. Then I looked up and it was April 2190, so I did what I was supposed to. I gave away my techs to every one and got close. Then gave some more techs to get alliance. Only one AI did I have to bribe with money to get the alliance. Then bam 60K.

To tell you the truth it was the most boring game I have ever played. I much perfer duking it out with the AI than doing this kind of win.

Hey Peace, can you dig into your bag of knowledge and tell us how many more games Dignavi has to play to get to 1M at the rate he is playing I would say he maybe a cousin of Tech.

Nice going Dignavi, way to climb the ladder

If he keeps a submitting rate of 2 60K games per day, he will reach 1 Mpts near 11/18/04. If he has a submitting rate of 1 60K game per day, he will reach 1 Mpts near 12/01/04

I know, that is why I tell new players not to be in a hurry to start following a maso formula.

I had alot more interesting games early this year before I decided to jump on the maso bandwagon.

Here is and example on how interesting it gets with my formula.

The Yor strongest power in the galaxy go the I am going to be evil event.

At the end of the game it took two 10000 for 50 month bribes to get them close, really exciting.

but ...

for now I am of for one more game.

I like MASO now but I am still more agressive on the tiny/small/medium maps. The Tiny takes me about 1 1/2 hours the Medium takes me about 2 1/2 hours to play. I played Huge and it took me 1 1/2 hours for 60K.

I just wanted to see how hard it was to get an alliance win. The win is pretty easy, actually really easy so easy it was sad.

But, don't think that I am knocking on anyone if that is how they like to play. Everyone is different.

I am not after the highest score possible but I am after a good playing experience that will get me to 1 million on the metaverse. I think that it will still take me another week or 2 to get there.

I like a game that I have to work at. If one of the AI gets too big then I have more fun than if it was a cakewalk, if you know what I mean.

i agree newfy. hopefully they'll fix up the alliance 'win' in galciv 2 - it should have to last say 6 months or a year - THAT would be interesting......i've just started playing large, but i think i'll go back to medium...not that my games are submitting at the moment...

Hey gongrats Newfy on the Maso game! Havn't been able to type here for ahwile so just wanted to congradgulate you on your win! By the way if anyone can help me with this I'd appreciate it: How long does it take to get penalties in the Meta, or minus the score? I'm asking because I havn't been able to submit a game for ahwile.

With the Downie Technique, it would be a question of pressing the 'next turn' button six or twelve times after you make the alliances.
I think what the game needs is no 'Diplomacy' rating. Diplomacy makes the AIs stupid. If they have low diplomacy compared to you, they make deals that hurt themselves. If they have high diplomacy, they refuse perfectly good trades. A good AI makes decisions in a similar way to a human.

i still think elite iz da top game of all time in terms of impact...

I would certainly have agreed at the time. That kind of gameplay hasn't aged well, though. Ferrying goods from one planet to another isn't that exciting - its biggest legacy is that it was a polygon-based game a decade before they became normal. And it still amazes me they got a game with numerous planets and spaceships onto a machine with only about 17K of usable RAM.

Generally speaking, Frank, you want to avoid missing a whole month. But it's only people who have been cranking out a lot of 60K games that stand to lose many points that way.

Hey gongrats Newfy on the Maso game!

Thanks. This was just my first alliance win on a MASO game. I have several military wins playing MASO. I just wanted to try out a win playing for alliance victory.

John, just in case you didn't know. If you click on the name of a person (underlined name) in this thread it will bring up their play history.

Works the same way when you are viewing metaverse scores as well.

Thanks for the tip Newfy, but I already figured that out a long time ago! I guess I just forgot to check it this time!

does da downie technique prevent the AI's from saying " we iz a war wiv da other ai, and u az to choose sides?"

iz just da Elite waz da first game dat created a "world" for me - i know da idea stinks now, but at da time we all spent 12 hours at a time totally immersed in its 3D universe - all da uvver games up to dat point didn't have quite da same mystique...and i don't think anything else has come as close, except maybe Myst...

Thank you Newfy. I am definitely going for the game a day method. I missed a couple of days so I was catching up.

at the rate he is playing I would say he maybe a cousin of Tech.

Tech is close to 700 games . With my 60 games that would make me a 40th cousin
