Hey Nice Yor, I mean Roy...

So anyway...
I am playing this game last night and it was going pretty well, I decided it was time to expand, so I sent my fleet over to the nearest Minor race and started wiping it out.
Then the Drath Legion, The people with whom I had the best relationship, come and tell me that I am messing up their economy by attacking the little dudes and declared war with me.
Then their buddies the Altarians declared war as well.
Now its this pitched battle, Me, the Torians and this other minor race, with the biggest ships I have seen so far in the game, versus the Drath and the Altarians.
My question is this...
How can I tell if the Major races are trading with the minor ones without watching for the little freighters?
I would have prefered not to go to war with the Drath quite at that time.

From this page you can upload an image from your harddrive to your account. |

Have you spend spying in the major races? What yis your spying level? On their stats display, have you a button showing "total routes"?
BTW, if you really want to declare war to a minor without this kind of problem, first bribe all majors AI to declare war on this minor AI

|
Spying?
I don't spy...
I SMASH!!!
Just kidding,
To be honest I haven't spent anything on spying yet.
I'll have to look at that.
And the tip to get that majors to declare war as well is a good one...
Thanx.

|
Then I fear that you will trigger some nasty events. Spying can help to avoid diplomatic blunder ...

Do you know : "Divide and conquer"? It is always nice to keep the AI busy with each other

The problem is that I am an old school Moo2 player and the spying in Moo2 was never really justifiable for me.
Whats the best way to convince an AI to do what I want?
Give them money?
Give them Tech?
I don't normally have a lot of cash on hand.
I tend to keep about 300bc on me and adjust my spending to sit around there.
And giving away my hard earned Tech doesn't sit well with me.

Spying in Galciv doesn't work like in Moo2.
First, you may want to have a greater diplomacy rating than them. So don't give away tech with an associated diplomacy bonus. The TG diplomatic translators is nice to have, especialy if you don't share the license
One thing to know is that the AI can exchange techs (they won't hesitate to do it at higher level). So don't fear to exchange the same tech to all AI in the same turn. Since you are playing at low level, you may want to exchange tech for cash (don't work at higher level). It is better to be able to use in exchange the same tech with all AI than to discover that you can only trade with one few turns. Some tech needs to be kept as long as possible: the one associated with diplomatic bonus, trade goods and galactic wonder
It is better to use tech in your exchange. And don't worry about your hard earned tech: tech trading with AI is one of the keys at maso level. So you will need to live with the fact that unless your are a superpower in the galaxy, you won't have a tech monopoly for long time. You just need to know what tech they will research (and spying help you since at a certain spying level, you will be able to know what their current research is), in order to let them doing the research, if possible

|
I'll give it a shot...
Its gonna take a while before I get to know the values of techs, what to trade for what, etcettera
But I'll definitely try it out.
I think its a bit late to save the game I am busy playing on though...
I'll just have to finish this one the old fashioned way... SMASH AND BURN...

|
Just a question: you have found when the diplomatic bargain will be accepted and when it will be refused, right?
| |
|
I select some stuff and say send...
They then either say thank you very much or they laugh in my face "Tap Tap, is this thing on?"
Is that what you mean?
Or is there some other mechanism to forecast their reply?
