You don't need to spend alot on espionage (spying) but spending a little over time helps keep you out of unexpected wars due to some diplomatic mistake.

I never liked putting money to spying because I felt that the benifits were not good enough. In my opinion the money used for spying can be better put to research and social building. Sure there are times when spying works but they are few. If you can get a stronger, better fleet due to research they you will be ahead in the long run.
Keeping your diplo status as high as possible will go a long way to keeping you out of wars that you do not start.
Keeping a good fleet of ships will help keep you out of wars that you do not start.
Trading with other AI will help keep you out of wars that you do not start.
Bribing other major AIs to attack the AI you want to take over will keep them from declaring war on you.

I hate the metaverse so we had 10 million but of course our score degrades
if you go to the Halls of the Foundation at the new Embassy forum you'll see posts about being a Senator, play tips etc. There are also play tips in other areas on the site. I don't know how to create links, but they're at www.diplomats-empire/new-embassy/

Hey Tech, I know I keep talking about games that don't have anything to do with Galciv, but I just wanted to say a couple more things about what you said:
Yes I mean it looks cool.
I will pick it up and give it a go.
I seen the commericals, reviews but have not seen it yet at Futureshop.
When you pick it will you tell me if it's cool? I'd really appreciate it if you would because I'm really interested in it. Oh and by the way is "Futureshop" your main game store up there? Just curious. Thanks alot! Oh and I'm sorry I havn't been contributing to the Foundation much, I've just been taking a break from galciv, and playing other games and doing stuff with my family. I'm might come back and start playing galciv again, or I might get galciv 2 whenever it comes out but I can't say. So I'm sorry if I wasn't (am not) a very big asset to our empire.

Futureshop is like Best Buy and Circuit City.
Best Buy is all over the place in Canada but I still kind of like Future Shop. The crazy thing is Best Buy owns Future Shop.
I did pick up Ghost Recon II but will most likely not get a chance to play it much for awhile. Will let you know when I get a chance to play it for awhile what I think about the game.
No worries about submiting John glad you make it by our thread now and then.
