I hope to get Ghost recon 2 for Xmas. I am having a problem though. My son 2 years 3 months loves watching me play Doom 3.

My wife and I decided to limit the violence that he sees on TV and of course video games.

So ... sigh ... I am no longer able to play these types of games on my computer when he is awake. It has taken about 3 days now for him to get over the lack of Doom. He keeps asking if we can play Doom and I tell him that it is broken. He then asks me to fix Doom ... cute little fella. But then I am biased.

Hey Newfy, if you're trying to minimize violence, Ghost Recon 2 doesn't have blood or gore in it. It's rated T for teen, and the content in it is violence and thats it. I don't know if that would still be to violent, but at least you won't have to worry about your kid seeing scarlet bursts of stuff coming out of someone that you shoot! But you know it's up to you and your wife and I think it's a good idea to limit violence, thats another reason I like ghost recon 2 it's not that violent. (Since like I said no blood or gore.)

I like FPS so I'm not campaigning here but anything where you shoot, destroy, blow up, etc. is a violent game. The blood and gore don't effect the violence just the perception. Violence is violence and when the idea is to kill, maim and destroy that pretty much covers it.

That is true for the most part Termil, but blood and gore do affect the violence in a game. A game where you shoot someone and they fall over is completely different from a game where you shoot someone and they blow apart or blood comes spraying out of them. Blood and gore add to the intensity of the violence in a game, so therefore they do affect the violence in any game. That is the difference between Halo 2 and this game. And that is why Halo 2 is rated M for mature as where Ghost Recon 2 is rated T for teen, because Halo 2 has intense blood and gore while Ghost Recon 2 doesn't have either. Any shooting, punching, killing or dying counts as violence. But blood and gore intensify the violence. So blood and gore definetly have an affect on the realism and intensity of violence, and also affect the rating of the game.

Does it matter what your killing. If your killing monsters or aliens or zombies or undead moose, I don't think it is bad as killing simulated humans.

Yes Exalted Druid, it does matter what your killing. But you're right, the worst kind of violence is killing humans. But also since Ghost Recon 2 isn't nasty violence, and its suposed to be realistic shooting not just killing everything, then its ok for me. But thats just my oppinion. Thank you.

P.S.: Hey Termil, I wasn't getting on your case, I was just saying what I believe about violence in games. And I wasn't trying to be a smarty-pants correcting you, just telling you what I thought about what you said. So I hope I didn't offend you!
