Looks like we may all be moving to the outback |
|
I think the outback would be a wonderful place to be. I like semiarid areas. I lived in New Mexico for 15 year and you could see 100 miles because of very little air polution.
On the other hand, my father always said when someone he did not like got elected: "We can live with anyone until the next election." In a democracy, you make do with what the people voted for. In this case it was a majority of the people. I realize the the European newpapers are asking why so many people can be wrong. Wrong question. Question should be "Why am I not in sync with the majority?"

It wouldn't be safe then. |

I promise not to bring my AK47!

|
By the way, there may be good reasons you are not in sync. Just understand why.

Bush is responsible for the deaths of more Iraqis than Sadam |
|
Pure BS. No proof, no statistics, nothing but a beliefe that Bush can do nothing right. With that bias, everything he does is wrong. No war is withoug casualties, either innocent or warrented. War is hell. It would be nice (and I suspect naive) to think that one could reason with those who opress their people like Sadam did. The current debacle of the food for oil program shows that europe, china, and russia all were circumventing the UN resolutions about trading with Iraq so that they could profit and Sadam could get weapons material insteat of food for his people.

Cannot argue with heresay. It is mostly the Iraqi with car booms and sucide bombs killing Iraqi's. Collateral damage happens in war. Never have the weapons been more accurate at avoiding it or the people using them more caring to avoid it. No matter how good your systems it can never be 100% in war

My 2,000,000 BC on President Bush and War (WWII and Iraq).
WARNING: I am NOT a believer in Politically correct talk. I speak my mind as clearly as I am able to. I am opinionated (as are we all), but am willing to listen to all feedback AND to cogitate on it!!! That having been said...commence rant, errr opinion.
I am an American, and I have no idea of the international opinion of our country's leader (and frankly...no offence intended, I don't care). I get most of my news information from Fox cable news, (the least biased organization I know of that is available to me), and my daily newspaper.
I believe that regardless of WMD's or not, Saddam Hussien (responsible for the deaths of ten's of thousands of people, not including his stupid war on Iran) had to be ousted. If that opinion is seen as arrogant, presumptive, or "against the soveriegnty of a nation", I will refer you to post #162 in this forum by Fuels Chief.
While I can't explain the actions of 65 years ago (I was not alive then), I believe FDR was quoted as saying "I HATE WAR" PRIOR to the attack on Pearl Harbor. (Not sure about the timing on that, but for whatever reason that is sticking out in my head.) We went to war only when the war came to us. But when it did, we saw it through to conclusion. I am amazed to see that anyone has a grudge against the US of A from something dating to WWII...
You mean like in WW2?
Where America was quite willing to see Australia invaded and did nothing.
Only when America was attacked did they see Australia as a useful base.

Would you have preferred that we never entered the war?

I doubt she was irritated because the USA entered the war because it was attacked, but that Americans believe they have a right to claim that they are good and noble defenders of the innocent. The US record in most of the world is more or less appalling - supporting dictators, crushing popular movements, assassinating democratically elected rulers, undermining allied governments, subverting the course of elections etc etc.
Any rational study of US foreign policy and the theory that guides it suggests the US acts solely in its national interest; to claim that acting in one's self-interest is a sign of nobility is somewhat contrary and more than a little infuriating.
I'm sure Marquesa would have preferred that the US enter the war because it felt it was the right thing to do, not because there was no other realistic choice.
But enough of the politics. How is everyone these days? It's been a while since I was last here. What's the address for the alternative forums? The current ones seem to be busted.
