This Thread is too big to read all the way through, but in post 3 or 4, someone mentioned something about Star Control 1 - 3...
Is there a Star Control 3?
Star Control 2 was my favorite Space Quester type game of all time...
I spent ages looking for Starcon 3 but to no avail
If there is a Starcon 3 Please let me know how I can get my hands on it!!!!!
Please!

Yes, there was a star control 3. Unfortunately, it didn't meet a lot of people's expectations. It was released in 1996. You can get a CD-rip version from Link
Note that it's a 56MB download. Hope this helps

I'll try it...

Hell I'd most definitly pre-order the game if I knew for certain it had a deadline. Like I have done for Ultima Online and a couple of other games of the type I even made the mistake of pre-Ordering MOO3, bah 1 disappointment won't stop me from pre-ordering. I have been hoping someone would make the sequel to that game for years. I bought that game new when it originally came out. Go for IT!

I have always loved TBS games. It started with Heroes II and continued with the masterpiece Age of Wonders, Heroes III, Age of Wonders II and Shadow Magic.
I've always heard people talking about some game named Masters of Magic and finally I just had to try it.
Downloaded it from the underdogs and realised what people were talking about. I didn't play for long though, it crashed after a while and there was also no sound. DosBox also used all the power of my Barton 3200+ cpu.
I wonder though, how does the retaliation system works in MoM? (I only used Halfling slinger since I heard so much about them
In Age of Wonders II and Shadow Magic it goes like this: "You hit, enemy retal, you hit, enemy retal".
I found this thread through google. Never heard of Stardock but they seem competent enough. And yes, I registered only to reply to this thread
Btw, what are your task Frogboy ? Programmer I suppose

But for those people looking for a radical change, that's not going to happen. We *like* Master of Magic. We just think it needs updated graphics and effects and a better computer AI and maybe a few new building and units or something. We don't want a MOO3 type scenario where the basic game is being changed. |
|
Maybe it would be a good idea to not call the game Master of Magic 2, then. I'd call it something that makes it clear how close it is to the original. Master of Magic: Mithril Edition, maybe.

This thread is almost too big to completely read thru, so I could be in error in stating this. However, on a differnt forum, someone had made a comment the Stardock was going to make a fantasy 4X game after GalCiv 2 ( link can be found here Link).
Also here is quote from that thread (hopefully it is in the correct context, would not want to misquote someone)
Brad Wardell - We're still in negotiation on the various fine points. Stardock WILL be doing a fantasy strategy game title after Galactic Civilizations II's release. We're in pre-production. So the question isn't IF such a game is going to be made but rather what the title will be. Outstanding fantasy strategy games such as Age of Wonders and Heroes of Might and Magic demonstrate that there is interest in these types of games. Our vision is to create a game where you're really building up a fantasy civilization that is full of magic and sorcery. Throw in a 3D engine so you can morph the ground when you start doing powerful spells and I think you'll find that a lot of people will want this kind of thing.

Stardock have stated that they will be doing MoM2, after getting the license from Atari.

Well just so that we're on the same page:
Stardock WILL be doing a fantasy strategy game after Galactic Civilizations II is released.
Whether it'll be called Master of Magic II or some other title depends on whether we are able to license the trademark "Master of Magic" from Atari to use. |
|
Will it be a true sequel to MoM regardless of what it's called?

That's a VERY important question. It decides whether I will spend my hard-earned money here or not

What if it were not a true sequel but better than MOM original?

I wonder if their Fantasy TBS game will be MoM: Deluxe Edition or MoM II.
I believe that sequels have the same core system but numerous enhancements that differ the game from the original. Like with HoMM II and III. Creature stacking, battling with wandering monsters, capture of resource structures and towns are all core principles that have always stayed throughout the series but have been refined and enhanced in several ways (Wait and Defend button f.x.).
Deluxe Editions on the other hand, are beefed up versions of the original (which seems to be just what Stardock intends to do) that doesn't differ so much from the original.
This is my view of what differs Deluxe Editions and sequels and following that logic, MoM II will have the same core system as the original MoM that we all know and love but also a few radical changes, several enhancments and many small changes.

Well, they have just started coding Galciv II.
| |
|
I'd have to buy several copies for me and my kids...as long as it was turn-based like the original. MoM was a great game. We still have it and try to play it occasionally on the XP machines.
I hate the so-called "RTS" strategy games and in this case my kids agree.

I have not bought galciv, yet I came over from masterofmagic2.com because stardock may be making a sequel... this is awesome! (hopefully it happens)
Multiplayer would be cool too. Especially if you can choose to just multi battles where you choose troops and some spells and battle it out.
How bout, Master of Magic: Merlin's Prophecy. (although Tauron's Revenge sounds cooler). I loved fighting against Tauron because he was such a nasty person and his music always made me angry for some stupid reason.
I think 4 players is good, maybe 6, but not over 8 MAX, too much going on.
BTW, I still have this old 90 mhz IBM thinkpad laptop, yet my parents still want me to toss it because they think it's useless. HA! it is my MOM gaming machine!
P.S. If MOM2 is made, I hope BRAX THE DWARF IS STILL THERE (made my bro and I angry, 300 mana for summon hero and brax shows up lol)
