You're forgetting the green geodesic balls, apparently full of gullible venture capitalists. Those are my favorite, the red cones come in second (though not by much). I can always use more money, a better military only comes into play if I've failed my primary goals.

I think I posted about this before.
If you know your Tolkein, it's hard not to trip on names like "Arnor" or "Mithril"ar etc.
Brad isn't the frst and won't be the last to be seduced by the wonderful naming of Tolkein.

if you think tolkein [may he rest in peace] was completely original himself, think again. brad is not stealing or copying tolkein, lucas, roddenbury, or any other sci-fi/fantasy giant. he's simply following their paths. just as they created vast and wonderful stories, so has brad. and just as they built upon and incorporated bits and pieces of mythology and prior works, so has galciv.
examples? sure:
--GEORGE LUCAS--
*endor: happens also to be a biblical location.
repackages terran concepts: nerf-herder=shepherd; sabacc=poker; funky gametable in the falcon in episode IV=chess
*classic good vs evil dichotomy... harsh black & white symbolize evil while softer, organic colors indicate good
--J.R.R. TOLKEIN--
*elves, goblins, trolls, frost giants etc: built upon numerous prior sources, especially nordic/celtic mythology
*very familiar theme of battle between good and evil, utilizes characteristic descriptions for each.
*final battle carries undertones of armageddon/ragnarok: end of an age. death of the gods.
--GENE RODDENBURY
bases his universe in our future, making for a very fluid (and easy to write) backstory.
these are only a few examples out of many possible. none of these are meant to in any way disrespect the aforementioned creative geniuses. the intent is merely to illustrate how galciv has created its own unique storyline--much like the above stories--but has followed a long tradition of incorporating certain common elements and themes, yes even names, as part of the process of creation.
for humans, creation without some element of synthesis is impossible... even God used dust to put man together.

Sorry, completely unrelated question here, although I gotta say I dig the background story...
Alright, maybe I'm mental but what's the deal with the star creation and planet creation technologies??? I've got 'em both but I can't build anything with them! I'm running out of planets to colonize man, and I need the income if I'm going to bring all other worlds under the ruthless domination of the Terran Hegemony!!

Interesting story ... but I will now ask for the answer to two puzzling anamolies (sp?):
1) How on earth did Horatio2 earn a "Veteran" status when it's his very first post???!!!
2) I notice that Frogboy's empire logo (I believe it is the Arnor Empire logo) is the same logo that quickly flashes on my PC screen when I first turn on my PC (even if I never fire up GalCiv). Is this some kind of spyware or something?
