Some beginner questions

Hello, I'm new to GalCiv and have a few beginner questions.
If I have my domestic spending set to, say, 33% military/social/research, what happens if at a planet I set the military/social projects to nothing. Do the military/social resources just get wasted? Or do they get converted into money?
Also, when a social project says +X% to Manufacturing, which resource is getting that bonus?
+X% to Economic means taxes right? Does that mean all 3 resources get a bonus? Since your earned credits get converted into resources if you have the spending slider up? Or is it only credits you get, and do you still get them if you're 100% spending?
Thanks for any help with this!

It just gets wasted. You can build constructors using military prduction at planet where you would normally not build anything else. The constructors can be used to upgrade your starbase's defense, etc. The social production just gets wasted until another improvement is researched that you wish to build.

Social and military production.

Your population earns more BCs.

Yes your military, social, and research spending divvy up this extra cash according to how your sliders are set. If you have your spending rate at 100% and these extra BCs is more than you can spend than you run a surplus and the BCs enter your treasury.

Ahh, thanks Moser, that all makes sense. Shame the resources get wasted though! Makes it really tricky when you just want, say, one ship built quickly.

Heyy.. those are added automatically thanks to your achievements in the Metaverse? That's a great forum feature!
I'm having fun with GalCiv so far and look forward to the day when I can win by non-military means. I tried this earlier and was soundly beaten about 2 hours in, when some enemy ships turned up.

Well, you need to have high diplomacy, a big economy and accept tribute at the beginning of the game (or refuse and offer something else immediately).
BTW, you may want to try the research.inc political party (available here Link)
