Can't Play GalCiv - Constant "binkw32.dll" Crashes

I have the latest version of GalCiv AP (1.52b). I can't play for more than a few minutes without a crash. I have Smartexeption running but although it pops up after the crashes the window is always blank. So that's not working right either.

For what it's worth, Windows gives the following information on the crashes:

Both Galciv and AP pretty stable.

So assuming you've got the latest video drivers and such...

Uninstall... then re-install. Uninstall doesn't delete any sav games so all you're out is the download time.

I'm at a loss, here.

I did everything suggested. I uninstalled and reinstalled GalCiv and AP. I downloaded the default Microsoft codecs. I installed the Bink tools. I ran checkdisk (error correction) and defraged my harddrive. I installed the latest drivers. When that didn't work I rolled back to some older video drivers I used last year on my other system that had worked good with GalCiv.

The end result of this is that it is still crashing all over the place. The only difference seems to be that it no longer blames the bink.dll. Now it blames galciv.exe. I was scrolling the screen when this one happened.

Stardock Central says I have version 1.52b.013 installed, but the top of the options screen in AP says 1.50. Is this discrepancy normal?
