I was reading some posts on the startgy forum and it led me to believe that the only way to get 60k was with a Maso Gigantic. I just got 60k on a crippling gigantic. I am on version 1.51. Has this changed or has it always been so? Is it possible to get a max score at a lower difficulty?

Here's one thing that will boost your score if not playing Gigantic/Maso/Alliance Victory. Research Beyond Human tech - but not Final Frontier, which will trigger a tech victory which will not be worth many points. Go for one of the other victories - your massive tech will boost the score. I got 57,275 using that strategy in a Huge/Maso/Cultural Victory game.
