I just have simple question which i would like some experienced players to answer.
I've just started playing Gal Civ again(been playing other games for a while) and im just playing my second game.
What is bugging me is that the AI(playing on challenging) always seem to find the special resources. In my last two games i've been lucky and had a starting position in a corner with quite many +14 planets and pretty far away from the other clusters. However when im done colonizing and start building social structures and have scouts running around i get contact with the other races when finding their starbases, harvesting resources in MY space in between my planets. How the h*l* can the AI find resources far from their territorys, deep behind my lines and then send constructor after constructor without me even noticing? (ok, maybe i suck )

A known advantage of the AI is that they know where the yellow stars are.
In my experience the AI does not need to search for ressources, too.
They build the first constructors very fast (rush buy?) and send them on the way.
When I play on big maps I disclose the map via cheat codes to get the positions of the yellow stars and the ressources. (You will not be able to submit to Meta unless you reload a game saved before switching on cheat codes.)
I still never get ressources near by the AI. But I can often grab ressources in my space and in neutral space.
Some here call it cheating, others say it's just getting equal terms for the AI and us
Yup the AI knows where all the resources are. It is part of the storyline, as it says that Humans have only just reached for the stars, whilst the older races have been there for a long time... Or words to that effect The only thing i do i make a few cheap scouts and park them on the resource to stop the Ai from getting it whilst i build a new constructor. Hope that helps!
Another nice trick is to send one constructor out to each "occupied" resource. Once there, just have it orbit the AI's SB that is on the resource. Eventually, that AI will get into a war with another and when a passing enemy ship destroys that SB, your constructor is right there to take advantage of it.
Resources are dependent on Taxes and expenditures. Military/Social/Research expenditures are set at the domestic screen along with amount of taxes you collect. The more you spend on military/social/research the faster things are built.
I find that the evil races don't really worry about the resources as much as the good ones. Try setting all the races mortalities to evil at the beginning of the game. See if that helps.
