.

There's a couple of things that I do not understand. Kindness or noughtyness... So if I rip a starship to pieces, or if I respect those few aboard the ship, what does it matter ? - except the fact that I GAIN money/tech +++ by being a bad bad boy, and must PAY the consiquenses by being cute and naive !
You see I acutally like... to be... to be cute. Really.

Give me some hope anybody ?

Certain races favor certain allignments and therefore it sometimes pays to be evil and othertimes good. An evil race (Drengin) will prefer to work with other evil races etc. Mostly it depends on how you like to play the game though.

It makes quite a big difference which ethic decisions you make.

You can check your current alignment in the domestic policy menu. Choose statistics and the in the upper left corner the social button. The alignment of the aliens can be seen in the forreing policy menu in the info section. But this is what you have choosen at the start options of the game.

There are a couple of technologies only available for the good and evil races.

e.g. you need to have an alignment of 90 to be able to research "The Better Way". You can learn more about technologies on JavaScout's page http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/index.htm Link

The evil AIs hate the good empires and the good hate the evil. But the good tend to help the other good empires. They send you ships or even join your war against an evil race. The evil don't care.

And the good empires tend to form an alliance more likely than the evil.

I know that there are some more things but I don't remember ...

Uhh yes, your interface changes. Bad guys have a red interface, good guys a blue. You have different advisors etc.

It helps to create alliances with races of the same morality.

It also allows you to research different techs.

Not specifically an answer to your question, but I also prefer a good alignment, if for no better reason than the issues others have noted.

Personally, the only time I accept the evil end of those questions is when Planet Quality is at stake. For +30% PQ, I'll gladly set up the 100 person per day lottery to be fed to the energy beast. I do enough good things to keep my alignment positive. It helps to have determined ahead of time what choices you will consider and at what level you will make them. (PQ +4%? Forget it.) Remember, you don't have to be PERFECT, just good enough to get the techs you want.
