Any way to stack defenders on freighters?

I keep noticing that my freighters are the first thing that a enemy civ hunts down during a war. I can understand this and think its good AI, but I was wondering if you could stack defenders as escorts as a fleet on the freighters, making them less easy targets.

The problem is that you can't include a mini frighter in a fleet.

Thus you need to find another ship with the same speed of the mini frighters.
