Javascout, how are you able to display your pic in your profile and how can we do it?

Za H, yes, there is diminishing returns on any planet where the total paid-for military+social+research production excedes 10 times the planet class, it costs more to fund the production. I'm not sure that this is the effect you're seeing, though. how are you determining how many research points you're earning a turn?

It's detailed in the "Economics in GalCiv" section of the Encyclopedia, also known as "GalCiv - those evil developers and their undocumented stuff."

Popup:

I look in my F4 economics report and see how much cash I am spending on research. I am no where near the diminishing return penalty for planetary production yet, and even then, it would be applied before it is summed up in my economic report. Maybe you can check your games some time and see if you experience the same problem. There is also the remote possibility that research bonuses are not working, and only the base research investment is being applied to the project.

At the end of my game last night, the main economic screen showed me spending 3000 BC on research. My stats screen showed a 700% research bonus. The very last tech (90,000+) only took four turns to complete (rather than thirty turns). So, I think the research bonuses are working correctly.

Thanks, Javascout. You can download it at http://galciv.bsd.st/madmaz/GCivPDAManual.zip Link

And thanks to the Lazy Bastard for the web space...

Oh yeah, a couple of notes:

- I'm using it with a PocketPC that has 320x240 resolution. I don't know how it will look on a palm pilot.

- The numbers on the first couple of navigation pages indicate how many links are in the children pages.

- This was based on JavaScout's web site about a week ago. If there have been any updates, it does not include them.

- To install, just copy over the directory with all the html files...

MadMaz, depends on the Palm PDA. Some go as high as 320x480, and 320x320 is fairly common now, though not predominant. Oh, and JavaScout's site has been updated with the 1.03.51 data, if you want to pull it down and update your html.

Popup,

My palm IIIc is evidenly getting obsolete. btw, I know his site updated, but I don't think I'll do any changes. I did it semi-manually, so I just don't have the time right now, especially if I want to finish my current gciv game If you know exactly which pages are changed though, that might be different.

Off the top of my head, the Dreadnought and Battle Hammer pages would have changed (Dreadnought more expensive, BH lower maintenance). I can't think of any others that changed, but If I think of any more, I'll let you know.

If you let me know the outline of the changes that where made I might be able to incorporate it into the program that generates the pages for the site or maybe provide a set of xml files that you can convert into pda format. Let me know.

I added several navigation pages, which are basically just lists corresponding to what you had on the navigation "frames" with an additional page that has all the research items alphabetically. Unless new techs are added or reclassified, I guess none of these pages would need to be changed.

In terms of the individual pages, I'd assume that you could easily modify your scripts since all I really did was remove stuff. I deleted all the tables that did the site navigation and added some bold font for headings. I did the latter to make it a little bit clearer b/c the PDA browser doesn't seem to use a lot of the formatting/layout information in the pages. It is still in there, though. It may cause it to load a bit slower, but it looks fine, though none of the backgrounds, outlines, etc. show up.

btw, there's no special pda format. It's just straight up html.

O.K., 1.03A made major changes to the larger ships, so you'll want to take a look at updating your page, if you don't just get the new stuff from JavaScout, MadMaz. They changed the BattleHammer, Dreadnought, Ranger, and Avatar.

I made a standalone GalCiv database from JavaScout's pages. It's in a single HTML file, so it's easy to print out and read on the toilet.

Offline commander or Internet Research from zylox.com enable you to download the entire web content...

They are kinda expensive, but they do have a demo which is limited and won't let you download any more than 500 pages per project with a limited number of projects...

Dude you are the best!

I was disappointed in this game because of the manual (all too common a problem nowadays). I could tell there is a great game in here somewhere - I just felt so lost.

Its amazing how a 20 page pdf can change your outlook on life!

Send your resume to Strategy First - it looks like they need som emanual writers with your skills - fell free to use me as a reference.
