I'm new to this forum, but I've been lurking recently and in all the discussions I've read about cheese tactics I haven't seen this one talked about. Some people may not have discovered this yet...

Step(1) Immediatley after destroying/conquering/assimilating an enemy's last planet, go to the diplo screen. (Until the end of your turn, you still have access to it)

Step(2) Offer your recently destroyed enemy peace... but at a price! Take whatever money or influence you can get for peace.

Step(3) After they accept, you now have access to trading trade goods, techs, and ships. Ask for all their techs, money (if they have any left after they bought peace with you), and any ships/starbases they have that you desire.

Step(4) In exchange for all those goodies offer them your trade goods and techs. If that's not enough, offer them money over 50 turns (which you won't have to pay since they won't exist next turn).

Step(5) Clean your keyboard. It smells like muenster.

Why hasn't this loophole been plugged yet?

The diplomacy model uses a too simple evaluatiion function. After they have been wiped out, ai's should only value planets as non zero values. There are many cases when trading something is silly, and I think it must be a pain to program all the cases.

You are right about almost all of that, but if you promise pay them money, you WILL pay them the money. It might not make sense that you're paying to someone who doesn't exist, but apparently their banker still collects for them...

I never thought of this as cheese. You should get something for conquering a civilization. I think of it as negoitating take-over terms.

I think this flaw was fixed in 1.1. An eliminated civ no longer pays tribute past its elimination. Someone should doublecheck this, though.

I agree with Cypher.

fsk+, you're correct. In 1.1, civs no longer pay you after they cease to exist.

Since I never give money to other civs, I have no idea whether or not humans are forced to keep paying a non-existent civ....
