After whining about it, I found three rangers in my last game.

I have played with both 25% luck (pick) and 50% luck (Universalists and pick). Usually I find Rangers, twards trhe end of the game, when enemy Dreadnoughts and Rangers are already present. I have never found a Ranger *early* in the game, but I did once acquire a single ranger when the opposing forces had battleships and death knights. Only reason I survived that game, in fact.... even more so, that game is also when I found *scads* of rangers! One (exactly one) was a Precursor random event ranger; at least nine others were Lucky Rangers, so mnay that I had to disband several because I couldn't afford the maintenance on them!!

I haven't noticed an especially common improvement in start up though.. I still occasionally end up with Class 16 for Earth! Once, though, Saturn was a Class 26 -- needless to say, the Terran government soon transplanted itself!

That's a wast of ressources. You could have traded them to someone.

I always play with creativity and I think it helps you to get hypersensors and such. I think it also gives you more random events aswell. There is one event I really hate though its the precursor corvettes. Getting one hundred+ corvettes when everyone is on overlord is just plain annoying.

trade them to Minors, man. Easy techs.

I always play universlists plus Luck. And I usually get free ships. Not in my current game, and I do need them! So I'm using Cypherpax method: I came here to whine about it, hoping I'll be more lucky this evening.

It would be useful to note that I have never *not* gotten a Ranger with "luck" but again I usually play challenging-painful, haven't reached maso skill yet (or maybe I have, haven't lost on chal or painful yet).

ANYWAY, if someone plays w/o any luck, do they still have lucky/Precursor events? I always play with luck so I don't know...

Correction to the above, I've played up to crippling with similar results.

Mr.Mike, I've only played up to painful. But sometimes I would get several ranger class ships in a game. Uf to 4 or 5. It happens usually when some other race has reached that tech and I'm falling dangerously behind. It does happen at painfull. However I play universalists + luck, which gives a total of +50 to luck. . Except in my last game: nothing like that happened, in the contrary: I had two assassination war events, and the enemy received the 100 corvettes gift!

After hitting Ctrl-N a few times, just to get a nicely shaped Gigantic map, I had a 26 in my home system. Without Luck. I do usually take luck, and do often find a 26 within a few sectors. Who knows? I'd really like to know!

It would also be very interesting to know if it did affect random events. Don't care so much about Rangers, though it's a fun surprise.

I've never noticed the help factor helping in my PQ himeplanet at the start. Usually when there is a PQ26 nearby, I usually find Carinoids on it .

I haven't noticed anything about events either. And if I had, the example I gave in my last post would probably suggest that if there is a link, it's not a strong one.
What I notice is that all the events that implies a moral choice almost always happens after mid-game.

lol i got liek 2 rangers in a game once i don't think i had any luck on that one also had a planet with a PQ 39 by the end of the game researched everything but beyond human i think when i got it was a 20.

I'v seen planets with a better then 1-20 for starting. some i'v seen with like 21 or 22 but rare they are.

Yes i'v played without luck and once got 2 random event rangers they where just in time to i needed them to fight back the enemy right now i have no luck in my current game and found one ranger i use it to escort combat transports (its still early in the game only like 5 years have gone by ingame)

Hehe... back when you could have +15 pq as a bonus pick, I had a pq 67 planet. That thing CRANKED!

#39  by Citizen UnderLord1 - 2/20/2004 9:49:26 AM

haha 67 i'd believe it would my 39 finished all my overlords pretty damn quickly its the reason i survived.

#40  by Citizen wickworks1 - 2/22/2004 2:38:55 AM

67!

The best PQ booster event I've seen is 60%. Is not 26, the best starting planet?

He probably got one of the precursor events. There's one that raises a single planet to class 35, one that raises all planets in a system by a certain amount, and one that raises all uncolonized planets within two sectors by a certain amount.

that would do it.

#43  by Citizen user_error - 2/22/2004 7:43:23 PM

Plus, I had the +15 pq bonus and that version also had researches that increased pq.

I've had creativity on for each game, and I think once I got a precursor event, all planets in a sector jumped up like 10 pq points. Was that just natural lucky or did creativity had something to do with it?

whoops sorry about that something with my connection happen when I clicked the send message button

Yeah jab, I was wondering the same thing. I would like to know if there is any picks out there that cause that type of even to happen. I would pick that bonus every time

Maybe one of the devs could answer this? That would answer our questions

Luck seems to increase the events like free rangers, but there's a lot of randomness so it's hard to measure.
Creativity is suppose to just improve your chances of getting a 25% research advance when your survey ship investigates an Unknown anomaly - quite useful in the larger sized galaxies.

Man, I'm really unlucky then. I've seen the individual planet event, but never the sector PQ events. That's good stuff!
