Sector PQ events usually happen in someone else's sector.

In my 70 something games, I have had the same sector pq event only once, had a single planet pq event twice and never ever benefitted from the 2 sectors pq event. I played many games using +50 luck and it didn't seem to affect the occurence of pq events.

Hi i'm new on the forums, been playing galciv for about 2 weeks and i was reading these strategies and i read this whole luck forum and i was convinced to give it a go, and bare in mind in the last two weeks of maybe 12 games (heh didn't finish them all) i always played the same galaxy type huge and abundant without ever having a luck boost, anyway current game i just started i tried a 50% luck boost with the luck buy and universalists, and i have a pretty good "look what luck did!" story:

my starting cluster has so 11 yellow stars so far and i'm only half way done exploring it , and it's only 7 parsecs in length, no other minor or major presence here thus far, 16 base class outnumbers the 15's by 2, several of the systems have 2 15 plus planets as well as a bunch of them plus the less abundant stars also have class 14's, to make it even better the position of the cluster is in a corner that's at least the first range upgrade away from another system so the race for the yellow stars isn't so rushed if there is no one in it by me, i'm only on the 11th turn but if it get's even better i'll say (like if i get the precursor 2 sector class increase event, btw it's funny the drengin have always gotten those events when they occur in my games anyone elses races hordeing the precursor events?).

now that's pretty amazing but it probably is a fluke but hey never know.

i also had a thought i notice that people playing on higher levels of difficulty are reporting less spectacular results from luck, and i got this on every computer being bright so i'm wonder if it's possible that luck has less of an impact on a game as difficulty increases? it sort of makes sense in a way.

Until recently I'd never seen them either. Or they would always happen somewhere else. And then, I just had 2 of them, under AP1.49. Both medium maps, in crippling and maso (in my current game). The first was the 2 sector PQ increase. And 2 days ago --in the maso game, so it happens at higher levels-- I got the precursor PQ event in ... Sol. All planets got +13PQ. In a medium/rare that's usefull! The planet's population circle in the minimap covers 9 sectors

Has luck been changed any since the patch? (I didn't read through this whole thread so I apologize if someone already asked this...)

When I first started playing I used it alot but didn't notice it doing anything. Then I used it recently and I got like nine Rangers and an event that gave Sol a PQ of 43.

In my third and current game (large, uncommon, beginner), I tried Universalist + 25% luck. Like Cypher, Rangers are still hiding from me (3/4 game approx) The biggest change I saw though is when I colonized planets, literally all of them had a special event. But besides that I didnt see a dramatic luck factor.

Thought I would revive this thread because we haven't beat it to death yet. I have tried a few games without luck now (I always used to spend the one point for +25% luck) and found that luck must have something to do with the +PQ events and definately has something to do with "fortune" ships and precursor ship finds. I think the Arceans must have a luck bonus because whenever I destroyed the Arceans early in the game the +PQ event NEVER happens but if they are alive or if I have the +25% luck the PQ event happens either to them or to me. When I don't have the +25% luck the best "fortune" ships or precursor ship finds are starfighters or corvettes, while when I do have the luck bonus I find Battleaxe "fortune" ships and Ranger precursor ships. However, I have found that on Maso setting the luck factor doesn't help or it only benifits me late in the game when finding a Ranger is no big deal. On less challenging settings the luck factor can make or break your game at a critical moment. This makes sense because at Maso you should be good enough not to rely on a lucky find to help you win. This is the Gospel according to Fanamar. Please dispute my findings if you have any further info. (I still want to know if luck is factored into anything else besides random events)

Luck certainly seems to improve the quality of ships found in deep space by survey ships.Scouts become much less common than corvettes.
