Obscene/Suicidal Strategies

Now that I've played a few games with all 7 races at Incredible, I figured I'd start a new disussion.

By the way, it's called Obscene while you are starting the game, but it's called Suicidal when you are posting a Metaverse score.

The first big wrench thrown in the works is the new Logistics limitation. Basically, it makes having large numbers of starbases very expensive. When you are building a new starbase, you have to pay an increasing amount of money based on how many starbases you already have. At the end of my last game, I had 15 starbases and building the 16th would cost 4000 bc.

This is a big consideration if you are using culture bombing or alpha strikes. Either strategy can still work, but you are going to have to limit your alpha strikes to one race at a time, if you are playing a decent sized galaxy. Culture bombing is a little harder because you have to destroy your old palaces and build new ones (unless you are going to have culture stars and move them around).

Another factor is that the Alexians and other original minors no longer pay for tech. You are going to have to rely on trade for all your money. The good news is now that you have 7 opponents, it's a little easier to keep them at war with each other. That's really the key to playing against incredible opponents. They have to be beating up on each other, to keep them from doing anything to you. Use trade routes to keep on the good side of the strongest opponent, especially if he's an opposite alignment. In fact, consider changing your alignment to be consistent with the largest majors.

If you are building a fleet (I don't really recommend it), try the Wraith. It appears to be much too powerful, with 800 hp. I think this is supposed to be 80. So it's more powerful than an Overlord (at least in Beta 3).

It's fun having a new difficulty level to play. Try it out! I think it's actually easier to have more incredible opponents, but you get more points!

The logistics and the mean Alexians are in 1.19 as well, only we don't get the extra trading partners.
Having tried a one-on-one game with an Incredible AI, I'm inclined to agree that the more there are, the easier it is.

Thanks for starting this thread Damon. I have a feeling it is going to get really popular over the next month or two.

It's certainly interesting - however there IS a strategy at this level to pull scores just short of 60k in an hour or so....

And by looking at Alex's profile I imagine Alex is quite accomplished at this strategy. .

Alex could you give us link or walk-through? Thanks.

Not yet - there's the Alliance combat coming up, and it would unbalance it somewhat, but GCCG2 is definitely coming.....

How do you get the 7 races to appear, or play against?

Sorry for trivial question but I have been away for quite a while, and this is all a new Ball Game for me now. Looks much more challenging too

I had a quick look around but at least the 1.19 enhancements do not appear to be much documented yet?
Or maybe I am missing some round(s) before that too

Anyway, if anybody has some pointers or quick re-cap of how to kick off the most nightmarish 1.19 level would be much appreciated

It is in AP (currently, version 1.49)

Andreas, some say maso on 1.19 and 1.2 versions is harder than suicidal (7 major incredible AI) on 1.49 or AP. Some say the 7 are easier than 5 because trade is more robust and there is less chance of one major AI dominating the game.

1.9 maso is harder than previous versions because of logistics, stingy Alexians, and no influence point gift bonus. Some report bugs, so beware of any "upgrade".

I think I am going to wait for AP to upgrade but you may get your most "nightmarish" Gal Civ on the 1.19 level just by playing an all-incredible AI maso.

Welcome back and good luck.

I don't think that its fair that AP scrores are being posted among CalCiv Scores.. it takes me 3 days of playing to get 60,000 mvp even longer now on nthe later versions

Cari posted in the GF that it is 80 hitpoints. You can just make the change in the ships file.

I have Drengin... I still don't think its fair... I think that the AP ppl should have their ownscoreboards..as it is a totaly tifferent game.. you can design your own maps etc...which you could rig to give yourself an advantage.. (I tried the early fersion on AP.. and i'm of the opinion it should be used for campaigns.. and compaign should be scored against others playing on the same maps.. etc... then it would be fair.. this is one reason i'm sticking playing with GC (always the latest version) to post scores to the metaverse..

AFAIK these cannot be uploaded to the metaverse at the moment

Yep. You can post games on random maps, but you can't post games on pre-made maps yet. Those will have their own mini-metaverses.

OK, I think I'm going to have to fix that Wraith. In my last game, the aliens finally figured out that it's the best ship to build. They really opened a can on me! Fortunately, I was nearing the end of my conquests, and was able to outlast them.
