Here's something I just did on a huge map, that was a very profitable exchange:
"So we got this here hyperspace drive, which could really get your folks around.
All we ask for in return is a small fleet of those cheaply produced freighters
you've got going..."
It was great! I traded for most everyone's freighter fleet, and since they were
all strewn across the galaxy, I got some cheap exploration time, locating
homeworlds, making contact with a bunch of aliens, and clearing fog on the
return journeys from too far out. Now everyone has to have nice cozey trade
relations with moi
I also got a great collection of transport ships this way, which I'll use for
shuttles. I'm planning to win this one by sheer force of social prowess. Kill em
with kindness.

To what planet are they reassigned? |
|
I believe it is the planet the ship is closest to.

How do you tell what the "home base" of a ship is?Are freighters "re-homed" if you buy them from the AI?To what planet are they reassigned? |
|
This is how it works for me...
After I colonize a few worlds, I'm usually ready to trade for a batch of freighters. They all get assigned to the same system of mine (picked randomly, or the last aquired, not sure which). After taking one or more of the AI's planets, if I get more freighters, the computer randomly picks one of those worlds I just captured and assignes any new freighters traded for to the new "randomly" chosen world. It seems to remain as the default world for the remainder of the game, or at least until I capture more worlds, not sure which. I have managed once or twice to influence where freighters come from by conquering a race in a far corner from the majority of the other races, then trading for freighters, thus getting long trade routes.
Anyone else with some insight on this?

In my experience, freighters are re-homed to my homeworld of Sol.
You're right, it is a great way to get freighters that are clear across the galaxy, and can set up some big money trade routes.

Btw - we do not have in GalCiv today any indication about what was the 'home planet' of our ships. I guess this is something to add in the wish list for GC2. |
|
I'd preffer to see it in the next patch.

It is my opinion, but I do not think that there will be any more feature enhancements to Galciv v1.xx series.
In fact there are a number of bugs outstanding that Stardock has yet to fix. These bugs are not major and are slightly anoying and do not really detract from the game.
So my opinion is based on the fact that since they are in development of GC v2.00 and they have not fixed the v1.xx bugs yet there will be no more patches.
I still am hoping that they will fix some of the outstanding v1.xx bugs though.

Hmmm...Cari-elf indicated that there would probably be another patch at some future undetermined date. As to what bugs are squashed, thats a different question.
