Thanks

If you are having a hard time, lower the difficulty level that you start the game with. When you begin the game don't be afraid to play with the spending sliders on the domestic screen. Before I even move a ship, I put my military to 100%, my spending to 100%, and have Earth make colony ships. This usually spits out colony ships every 3 turns (it says two months). You will have a much better chance in the inital planet grabbing rush in the beginning. WATCH OUT THOUGH!!! leaving your spending slider at 100% will drain your treasury quickly, and being in the "RED" (Negative balance in treasury) is not something to venture lightly into.

I usually adjust my spending slider down immidiately after I build what I think will be my last colony ship for a long time. This adjustment puts the spending slider usually to somewhere between 30%-50% (depending on how close I am to going in the "RED") and is still losing me money, but soon I'll have researched to trade and can begin making freighters. Trade is the life blood of economic might in the game. I will research straight to it after diplomatic translators.

Anyways, after my last colony ship is made I put the military slider to 0%, social to anywhere between 35% to 50%, and research gets the balance. I have gone without any research at all to this point (anywhere from 8 to 20 turns or more) and Earth's morale is no longer at 100%.

Morale is another key item to watch!!! Time to build entertainment network, followed by soil enhancement. I always try to get my colony's morale to 100% (this boosts population, and will ensure your people stay happy, thus keeping your party in control) so I have become very familiar with the planet list (see tab at bottom of main screen). This will rank your planets based on the heading you chose from the bar on top.

Once you learn how to tread the fine line of managing your spending sliders, and keeping your people happy without going into debt, the game becomes much more enjoyable (tech trading, bribing the AI to go to war with each other, etc.).

Hope this helps
