Doing it with the minors

My last game was a maso/gigantic one, set all AIs to pure evil, I was going for pure good.
I wanted to try a Military Victory so I chose the Galactic Guardian party instead of my usual Populists +60 diplo.
After playing 3 years or so, it looked pretty bad for me, I had a hard time trading and brinbing without my usual diplo boni and the Betageuses ( which are my people of course ) were the weakest in economy, military and everything else every AI Race did hate them. The most powerful were my neighbours the Torians, who still stayed wary to me no matter how many traderoutes I had to them and how many presents I offered them and they were followed by the Drengins who just declared war to me.
I was pretty sure that I would loose this game cause I didnīt have any money or tech to bribe my way and the Drengins had loads of Corvettes, when I still had only Starfighters.
Then an event occured which changed everything: there was a revolution in the Torian society, a movement called the Fundamentalists, calling itself Pure Good smashed away the evil Torian king and the evil Torians became a new Pure Good Minor Race called the Fundamentalists.
This meant, the most powerful Race of the galaxy was a Minor now.
Of course I offered some presents to the new government of my neigbourhood and quickly they became friendly and some Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters later they were even Close.
All the trade routes I had with the Torians were still existing and I created some new ones to the Fundamentalists.
I was still at war with the Drengins, just hoping that they wonīt reach my homeworld. Suddenly the Fundementalists said that they feel their fortune is going with the Betegeuse-Race and they joined the war against the Drengins... well I did not even ask them for it but it was a great help - cause from now on THEY were fighting against the Drengins, and I could concentrate on trade and research.
A little time later the Drengins asked for a peace treaty and I agreed.
From now on I could do what a Beeblebrox is born for: getting rich and celebrating it. I bribed and traded my way, the Majors were still much more powerful than me, but with my close friends the powerful Fundamentalists, they didnīt dare attacking me and if they did, they had big problems getting through the Fundemantalists zone, which was situated around my worlds, like a security area.
Anytime anybody declared war to me the Fundamentalists declared war to them, even though I was never allied to them. This way I didnīt have to fight all the wars they were fighting, but still got their military help if needed.
I had never to bribe them again, and they were staying close the rest of the game.
So I kept myself out of conflicts most of the time, trading , spying and bribing my way straight to Avatar and Terrorstar.
When I finally had those the only Major left were the Drengins, spreaded over two third of the hole galaxy. The most powerful race were still my close friends the Fundamentalist, there were two or three new Minors which didnīt count.
So I decided that the time for my revenge had come and I kindly asked the Fundamentalists to declare war at the Drengins, so that they will be weakened when Iīd come with my fleet, it didnīt need much to make my old friends agree.
The war was epic and it took me ( real time) roughly 14 hours until my fleet was near the last planet of the Drengins and they surrendered.
The Fundamentalists did a great job attacking the Drengins continously, while I often had to retreat a little bit to get new funds for my war.
So I had my first military victory in a maso/gigantic game...

I just wanted to write this down to show, that the Minors are not only good for wiping them out and stealing their plantes, but that they could also do a very good job as federates especially if you have the same alignment then them.
All my traderoutes were with Minors which has the big advantage that they arenīt affected during the conflics with Majors and still bring some money during wary times.

Also I wanted to thank Stardock for this amazing game - I love the fact, that you could never say whatīll happen. Around 2189 I was pretty sure that I am going to loose the game, but things changed and had my greatest victory so far!

Congrats on your victory! I've only seen the Fundies once, but I have heard many stories about them. A lot fo the players who play evil complain about them as some or all of thier planets get taken. I guess it's just a way to even up the bonuses you get while playing evil.

Also, I see you joined at the Diplomats' Embassy. I hope to see you around there as well.

Good Victory, I usually play good or try to. I have seen the Fundamentalists many times. They can be a great help in turn a game to your advantage.

thanks littlewotts!

About the Diplomats Embassy, I registered there, but it seems that the admin hasnīt activated my account yet, cause I still canīt login. Do you have to be a member of the Diplomats Empire to read and post there? Cause I am not sure yet if and if yes, which Empire I gonna join...

Nope, you maybe a member of any empire. The Diplomats are kind enough to host our Private forums at their site. I'll PM Vision of Tomorrow (one the admins) and see that it gets taken care of for you. Have fun picking you empire! I would suggest you read through some of the empires threads, but don't feel obligated to read EVERY posy. Our thread has 16300+ posts now.

Powerful minors are a blessing in Masochistic games. They're much more generous as trading partners than the majors, and rarely go to war with you.

I currently play gigantic maso with all AI set to evil (trying to get as much points as possible win an alliance win on a non AP games). In one game, the fudamentalists has appeared and take all planets for 3 AI (Drengins, Torians and Arceans). It really changes the look of the galaxy

When playing for a military win, I always hope to see the fundies appear. And I agree that trading with them is a wonderful option to trading with the Majors. After taking over so many planets, I really do consider them a major. (Just glad I don't have to eliminate them to achieve military victory conditions.)

Population is one of the elements to a higher score. People playing large, huge, gigantic maps never have to worry about this when shooting for the 60K score.

When I am trying to get 60K on a Medium map I try to conquer all the AI including the Minors.

When I finish a game that is slightly below 60K I can usually load up a save that happened just before the endgame and spin out another years worth of turns doing research to get another tech or two and by keeping my morale at 100 increase population.

Doing both of these will usually boost my score up enough to get the 60K.

Did you mean to post that on a different thread?

Wait a second... Galactic Gaurdian party? That's not an option on my set up screen. Also, Populists only give a 20% boost to diplo. Is there a newer version I need to get? Or a mod?

Come to think of it, there are lot of govs/mods/events/up issues, etc etc that people talk about but I never see. I feel like I am missing out on all the fun Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

TrekE,

We are refering to the Stardock approved mods available from the Library. Each downloaded mod has its own readme file with installation instructions.
