What kind of bs is that? I got this message concerning an enemy empire. That ruins the whole game to me. It requires me to make war now or lose the game?!

I had the same problem! However, what the event does is cause the enemy who recieves it to get + 1 to any random attribute every turn. Though this is only minor early on, you will find them much more difficult to combat many turns in the future! Especially if you play on Normal or above. Eventually, if you do not kill them, they will be unbeatable.

It only gives it to the weakest of the AI's when they're getting whomped. *IF* they survive and thrive they'll eventually do you in.

in my game they gave it to the 2nd place empire. and i dont see why any empire should get such a cheesy boost.
is there any way to turn this off?

Huh. It's always been the weakling that gets it in my games.

No, I don't know of any way to turn it off.

Its a random event that doesn't happen every game. And the game is still beatable even if you don't go to war with them just gets more difficult. In one game I even had the effected race as an Ally.

Every time it's happened in any of my games, it's always been a race I haven't encountered yet, off in unexplored space. Since I can't do anything about it, I just ignore until I meet up with whoever it is. Often they are wiped out by one of the majors long befroe that happens.

Hmmm .. the descriptions of these events can be located in the ENGLISH file under the Data directory. But this are only the description strings. Strange .. for a game that is supposed to be so modifiable, I cannot find where Comeback_1 and Comeback_2 are defined so they could be adjusted. Have to go dig around in the mod section of the forums...

Has anyone ever *been* the one that finds that artifact?

Its really great that GalCiv is doing so well and all, but where are all of these whiny crybabies coming from...

Ohhh the games too hard
Ohhh I actually have to think and strategize
Ohhh everything didn't go my way
Ohhh a random event just made life more difficult...(yeah, there's something completely unrealistic).

I mean its one thing to ask for advice. Its another to piss and moan because the difficulty got amped and now you're screwed.

THAT'S when it get fun..."how do I dig myself out of this hole now..."

Otherwise you might as well be playing solitaire with the cheat codes on.

I agree, Valamir. The game I've enjoyed the most was one in which I lost all of my planets save 1 (one!) to the Fundamentalist event. It took several years, but I was able to re-conquer them all and win.

thats why i don't understand why people will buy a game and then immediately look for cheats. It seems pointless to me to cheat because then its way to easy.

"Has anyone ever *been* the one that finds that artifact?"

Now THAT would make things interesting.

I don't mind the "your enemy finds the powerup that lets him win the game," but I think it would be fun to be the one who gets it -- and have to survive the war made on you

I don't care how difficult they make the game on the higher difficulty levels as long as lousey players like me can win at a low level.

My all time favorite game is SMAC. I had to play a lot of games at citizen level to get to the point I could win on Transcend and I only did it a couple of times just to say I did it.
