I"ll admit, I've only run through one full game of GC so far, which I won by cultural victory, so I'm still feeling my oats.
One thing I wonder about is this: I worry about increasing galaxy size past medium, because it seems to me that this will simply make the techno victory the easiest and best method of winning. If you have a gigantic galaxy, I forsee that it's going to take a helluva long time before the races all meet and really start competing with each other. And considering how much tech I managed to research in the medium game, well then heck, with twice as many productive planets if not more, then what's to say that round about the time when anybody gets around to really threatening me or me them, someone's gonna pushing for the Final Frontier?

I don't think the AI can win by Tech Victory right? ..It's also surprising how quickly you find the other races... and get into war. Larger galaxies have increasing things to spend your money on too, you have more area to defend, so you need a larger navy, you have more planets to keep happy with social production. I think Tech research evens out fairly well between the galaxy sizes really.

Fear not. I'm in the middle of a Gigantic/Normal game right now, and am going for the tech win. I'm about 60% there, but the other races are trying their damnedest to make sure I don't survive to see the "Final Frontier".

I agree with you LDiCesare. It's not VERY easy to go for a tech victory, but it's too easy since there's no competition from the AI.

LDiCesare: Actually, I suspect that in 1.04 their invasions will get better, given the comments on improved fleet handling. In fact, the Arceans (set to intelligent) are already stacking transports and frigates in my 1.03A game, which was a reasonable enough defense at the time.
