Why do I get so few metaverse points?

Okay, I added another score. I played on "suicidal" difficulty on 8x8 and achieved a cultural win. Why the hell do I only get 122 metaverse points, whereas others get into the thousands?!?!?

What am I doing wrong? I mean, I really RULED the galaxy, and only one civilization was left that I had not conquered. Does cultural victory give less points than other victories?

The scoring has changed.
Makes it hard to catch up at this point

They are going to eventually redo all the scores so
everyone's even. Of course in whatever scoring system
they come up with they should consider starting
conditions and many other things various people
have mentioned. Maybe they'll just get rid of the
Metaverse.

Is there any explanation anywhere how scoring actually works? Do scores differ according to map size? I mean, they shouldn't - playing on a large map is not more difficult, it just takes longer.

"They are going to eventually redo all the scores so
everyone's even."

What does "eventually" mean, in this case? A week? A month? Some time after the expansion?

Perhaps they *should* get rid of the Metaverse, after all. These inflated, old scores for simple games that no one can compete with are not any more funny. Not remotely.

The scores on small maps are smaller. Scores include population numbers (thus you are doubly screwed when you play tiny + rare yellow stars), number of techs and other factors, including number of turns spent. Details are very cloudy.

Hmmm, in this one area Galciv does worse than the civgames. In this instance, less would be more: A simple, transparent scoring formula, and the current score accessible at all times.

I agree with you on that coffeedragon. I really love this game, but I love the idea of the Metaverse as well. It should be a simple scoring method, one you can press a key and see at any time. It is cool to be able to create the empires, and that the AI can download the data on the best players. It is not cool for a game like this to be as moddable as it is and to NOT be able to submitt your score. (CDG is currently working on our own Hall of fame for Galciv. It will be set up to handle both modded and unmodded games. 2 separate Hall of fames possibility? We want to try and get the community to expand. Make it easier to use mods, make mods. A good game like this should have more players. Tons of support though.

There are too many variables to make for easy and consistent scoring across different games as it is. How would you factor in the potential effects of some arbitrary mods?

My greatest concern is that galaxy size determines the scope of your score. This should not be. Playing on a large galaxy is not more difficult than playing on a small one!

Yikes, another M"etaverse is a joke" thread growing here in Strategy?

LDiCesare: Actually, it's population per sector, so that much at least isn't biased towards the larger maps. Also, you're penalized for taking longer, and larger maps take more time.

I'll be the first to admit that I can't make heads or tails out of the scoring system, however.
