Im wondering, is there any easy way to see how many trade routes you are allowed to have? Im losing track of how many i can have as i reaserch more trade techs, and building a freighter and sending it somewhere just to see if i have any extra trade routes to use is kinda slow.

On your Domestic Policy screen, note the tabs across the bottom. Select the Trade tab.

It doesn't matter if you produce a few freighters too many, since you sometimes lose trade routes. I often have a few freighters parked in friendly AI space, which enables me to quickly replace lost routes. This is also a good tactic when you are researching a tech that allows you new trade routes.

Yep, it's always a good idea to have a freighter ready to swoop in and open a trade route the same turn you get a new tech allowing you an additional route.

But I'd still prefer not to waste credits on freighters that are no use to me at the moment even if they could potentially be useful later.

I've noticed that under the stats tab on the economy screen you can see how many additional trade routes you can have which in my case at the moment is two less than my total established trade routes. So am I to understand that two trade routes is your base number and any techs and race bonuses you get go on top of that?

Actually, the base is 1, and "Trade" gives you your first +1 to trade routes. The base was 2 at some point in the beta, however.

You are absolutely right. I remembered wrong. Actually my trade route bonus is 5.

So... in conclusion: To see how many trade routes you can have go to the stats tab under domestic policy. Find the bonus for trade routes and add one to that number.

Or on ur trade route screen where the routes you have are numbered. If the numbers go up to 4 then you can have four. The ones u don't have yet are blank while the ones u do have include some information about the route
