i pulled out my game last night. I was hopelessly behind the Torians as they warred with the Drengins and were finishing them off. I was spending all my money to try for a hopeless tech win. They were friendly with me, but never close, and i had 8 trade routes with them...i was going to lose..when all of a sudden..after i became "GOOD" ..a few turns later..they were CLOSE to me...and i became allied with them after giving them a star system..just 2 turns before the drengins were eliminated so i pulled out an alliance win! Yipee! very exciting.
It was also the first game i played where i was so far behind militarily that i was researching all trade and culture techs and leaving the military behind.
I also was the Mercantile party with the trade bonus.
8 trade routes with the torians out of 8 possible routes and being GOOD allowed me to snag an alliance with the Torians and thus get in on their victory with
the alliance win.
Otherwise i'm sure they would have turned on me right after finishing the drengins off ..and a few of my planets were already defected to them by game's end.
After this win, I've decided this is my favorite space strategy game ever. It has passed Moo1.
That sounds likes what Computer Gaming World calls a Trancendental Gaming Experience (or a TGE
It is a great game and i've learned alot just reading the strategy forum here for an hour. Im going to use the Tech map i found (finally) and proceed from there.
Good Luck,
Don Alejandro
