In the first or second game I played I had a space monster take out one of my star bases. Twenty plus games later I have never seen another space monster. Are they that rare or were they taken out of the game?

I think they're just rare. I haven't seen any space monsters in a while but I did see them in multiple games.

Well the ocurence of the events such as monsters and pirates are now lowered a lot , before if you get Space Zoo you automatically in few turms get monsters escape , if you get galactic prison you after few turns had prisoners escapes , now this happens MUCH less.

Yep it is just based on luck and also the AI tries to destroy MOnsters and pirates as soon as they appear so even if this does happen The AI may just blow them up before you see them.

Talk about Irony. I post about the monsters and in my next game I get the zoo and 3 of the beasts escape. It cost me about 20 frigates, 6 corvettes, system garrison and a couple of battleships to exterminate them.

Maybe I'll pass on the Zoo next time.

I have never seen monsters in any game i've played and i only got pirates once but it was only like one or two ships and they were taken out by one of my starbases

I'd like to see more pirates.

Pirate starbases, Pirate fleets.

What I see now is 1-3 random pirate ships that seem to be LOSING HITPOINTS automatically.

They decide to ram themselves into my starbases in a blaze of glory.

Got a space monster yesterday. I spot it right after the event message, he had like 1500 hp max, but its current hp were 20 or so. He was in the middle of my sector, and there was nothing that could have brought it down from 1500 hp to 20 hp in just a turn. That doesn't seem normal...

Heh I ahve never seen space monsters or pirates in any game. I wish we could set the % chance of occurance. Thoes events are rare in my games on normal for some reason.

I have to say, I LIKE that they are so rare.
Otherwise it wouldn't be a special event, it would just be a standard feature of the game.
The same with the different minor races/event like terrorist, fundamentalists, Draginol... makes the single games more unique.

I've only seen the pirates once, I once hosted the zoo but never saw the monsters.

P.S. Do monsters ever appear without a zoo ?

I have gotten the Daringol menance. That evil being took over my planet and have a really really big ship guarding it. Anyone got the evil presence event? That thing was tough. ;x

I got that stupid evil presence event once. It took over a 5 planet system with over 80 Billion people. It took FOREVER to finally capture it. Too bad I just couldn't bomb it from space...

Man, I've never had ANY of that happen. Of course I'm only on my 4th game so I really can't complain. I'm anxious to run into a monster though, what's the tech path to stellar zoo?

It's a UP issue (Who gets it).

It provides temporary bonus but can have escaping Belua

Yep, although I think the Zoo always spawns three, while otherwise it's random.

I have run into pirates once and never with space monsters.

I've encountered both. The monster really ruined my game!

I see the monsters about once every three games. That's not including the zoo creatures that escape (if you get that one from the Council). They do seem to mess me up for a bit if I havn't built a large fleet up to stop them.

Had a zoo escape last night with three monsters. Used one of my ships to lure them into AI territory and watched havoc ensue.

Hmmm. I tried this once. Damned things came to a stop as soon as they entered my enemy's sector. After trying *forever* to continue to lure them with my scout , I checked my speed modifiers. Sure enough, I had built sufficient starbases in that sector with the -1 Enemy Speed module that the Space Monsters didn't have *any* movement points. They became a permament fixture in the galaxy!

That's great. I'm going to have to try that one.
