Cool...I just used the Terror Star and destroyed some nasty aliens. I had no idea they destroyed the whole star system! Anyhoot, when uses Terror Stars in combat, does it affect you alignment in the game? Make you more evil!

Thanks for the help!

Monkson,

Unfortunately, using a terror star to kill billions of sentinents is not as evil as calling in the exterminator to kill some bugs.

Both of my terror star games turned out 'Chaotic Good.' The most popular Terror Star tactic is loading a terror star with cultural mods is a much better weapon, particularly if you can stay on good terms with the majors you're trying to flip.

Happy Raiding,

Cypher

Now that is funny; good point. Do you get more points for killing entire star systems? Has anyone ever built a good terror star or two and just moved it around killing off all your enemies to win the game? It would probably have to be a small map or it would take forever.

I destroyed seven systems in a game on a small map with tight clusters once. My compatriots in GROSS tell me that destroying star systems is actually BAD for your score, but it so much fun that I somethings destroy a system or two anyway

I've won the game with terror stars...

I was going for the tech win on tiny. So I set up everyone with the same tech so I could finance my production. Then that stupid "So and so have found this thing and will take over the universe..." This always ruins my games...

So I built 2 terror stars fully loaded with all mods. Then I drove it in a fleet and parked it next to the system I wanted... (2 sets of systems were next to each other, one space apart.) It was sweet, in one round I destroyed 4 systems. In the end I wiped everyone out. 9 systems...

The odd thing was that the altarians had built one! It seems if you can trade for one tech from someone then it sets up up for the rest of them.

One strange thing that always happens to me since the v1.0 is that my first terror star in a fleet can move 10/1 moves... It's very odd...

I agree, it is pretty niffty to see the system destroyed. It would be cool if they added about 1000 people screaming for a second when you destroy it.

Keep in mind that the race that gets this is usually losing. I find that at least 3/4ths of the time I can totally ignore this message because no matter what bonuses race X gets they can't possibly come back and win it.

I've found that most of the time, the terror star gets the same movement points as whatever other ships you put in its fleet. I suppose this is a bug. And sometimes, if you pick the terror star and move it, the other ships in the fleet seem to be taken along for the ride. Then you can launch the other ships from the terror star (with full movement points available).

However, terror stars are no good at killing ships, which is pretty irritating. But the cultural strategy works great, especially with the bug mentioned above. Put 3 +243% culture stars in a sector with a planet, and it will be yours shortly.

It gets interesting if you have a "fleet" of terror stars with all the cultural mods - they are much less effective as a fleet than in separate tiles - half a dozen terror stars as a fleet might get you about 8000 influence, separate them, and it goes over 100k and planets "flip" in no time....

Set the scene......
It's peacful night on Rigel 2 and the govenor and his son are out walking when suddenly, they look up in the sky and see the approach of the most hideous Terror Star imaginable..
"Good God nooooo....," screams the govenor, "It's the dreaded Golden Arches!"
"Quick lad, we must convene and emergency session of the council."
Meanwhile....in orbit around Rigel 2
"Alright, you..with the stripes...and you, the giant pear-shaped purple thingy...phase one is for you two to get down to the surface and make those children love you! We'll start burning cardboard and convince the rest of the population that this stuff is not only good for you but also that it's really...wait for it....BEEF!"
Back in the council chambers.....
"Govenor, what are we going to do? The Golden Arches have subverted our children. The kids are forcing us to buy cardboard, help us please"
"Govenor, what in the hell is that purple thing?"
Phase two is now beginning. All over Rigel 2 the populace is being bombarded from giant speakers in space. From dawn till dusk they hear the same phrase over and over and over again......"Do you want fries with that? Do you want fries with that? Do you want...."
From the bridge of the Golden Arches, the clown continues his demonic plan.....
"No-one can withstand the power of my Terror Star. I will spread my culture to the ends of the universe. Soon billions and billions of people will be sold on my idea. There is no force that can stop me! MuhahahahMuhahahahMuahahaha!"
Can the good citizens of Rigel 2 withstand the cultural influence of the clown and his Golden Arches? Will everyone soon be eating cardborad beef? Will the govenor ever be able to walk the streets without seeing that pear-shaped purple thingy again?
Stay tuned for episode two "Here comes the caboose."

Keep it up, PrimusPilus

It's always good to have Galcivers liven things up with some role-playing.

The purple thingy is actually called Grimmace. Don't you think that is an appropriate name for this story?
