Whenever I try to get close with a major race in a game, it's really easy. All I have to do is to establish all my trade routes with them, and enhance with some starbase trade enhancing modules and i'm close with them. But if I do the same thing with minor races, I can get up only to friendly and not farther. How can I get a close relation with a minor race?

To get "close" with a minor:
- give them a free tech or two every so often, no harm giving them techs the majors already have
- give them some of your trade goods for free
- establish a trade route with them and relations will improve over time (one will be enough it need not be starbase enhanced)
- you could give them a free planet but there is really no need to go that far (unless you also wish to strengthen them)
- you could also give them a free fully decked out starbase but there is really no need to go that far (unless you also wish to strengthen them)
- have patience, they will eventually want to cuddle up
- forget about "milking" them. "Thou shalt give in order to receive" applies in full measure when trying to snuggle up to a minor.

A regular supply of small free gifts is much more effective then giving them a big heap of free things all at once.

BTW I aways finished up allied with all of the minors in every game. I do give them planets, starbases and warships. They do most of the fighting for me thus sparing me the medium of moving lots of ships around. I often do no more than send in transports (with protecion). (I see this as a means of automating most of the warfare which doesn't interest me much).
