I have not tried any of the GC Mods yet. I have downloaded a few and will install them soon. I have followed some posts and it seems that there are mods that make the game easier and allow higher scores.

Do Galciv MODS make the game easier ?

I don't know the answer except:

1. some mods only add to the fun, for example the mod that lowers the drengin music volume to the same volume as the others is great. I use it without any other changes. Some mods will not impact game score and will not impact metaverse submissions.

2. if you add mods that increase planet quality or give you wads of cash and try to submit that game to the metaverse, you run the risk of getting an anomalous score of zero. Thus, the game counts against your metaverse total, which is the total scores divided by the square root of the number of games submitted with a decay value for games > 30 days old.

3. if you are just playing for fun and don't intend to submit to the metaverse then use all the mods you want although it may be easier to wait for Gal Civ 1.1 in 10 days and just use the cheat codes so you can experiment or play just for fun.

Good luck and congrats on your metaverse ranking.

Depends on the mod.
If you want to make the game harder for you:
Play maso, mod colony ship range to 0. You'll be in for a really bad game as the ai will expand while you won't.
If you want an easy maso win:
Mod colony ship range to -9. Use constructors and you'll be able to settle each and every yellow star in the galaxy while the ai will stay in their home sector.

So that depends on the mod. Look at each of them. If they provide +PQ improvements, they probably make the game easier.

As said before, it depends. Mods that drastically change the game mechanics make it easier, since the AI is optimized to deal with the unmodded game. LDiCesare's range mod is a good example. Mods that add new techs or enhance old techs also mess up the AI--you change the value of that tech but the AI doesn't know it's more valuable. Adding morality events probably doesn't have a significant impact (unless you play games with it, like making your only event be something with -50 PQ for the good choice and +50 PQ for the evil choice, then playing pure evil with all AIs set to pure good).

Thanks for the information. I think that I will not install these mods. I think that Stardock did a good job in balancing the game play and a MOD may unbalance it.

You forget that the AI uses mods too. They absolutley love the photon mines. I've seen the course of war between two AI civs change when the losing side finally got photon mine production going.

I have loaded the majority of the events and I have never have had problems with submission. I can't think of anything that's unbalancing in that library.

I have also loaded the party pack for some games. The parties in it have slightly more picks, but the AI knows enough to pick them as well.... in fact, if you don't pick a party from the party pack - you'll be the one at the disadvantage.

Haven't tried any of the other mods, but I would be interested in hearing which ones are safe for metaverse submission.

It's not a matter of gaining an advantage, it adds a lot of variety to the game. Many of the morality events are quite good. By the way, events are easy enough to edit in any text editor (i.e. notepad) so if you felt something was too powerful, you can change it yourself.

Cheers,

Cypher

i use most of the mods from the library. the only one i've removed was the friggin' photon mine one. i believe it really unbalanced the game, i mean, a full hit points overlord was destroyed trying to take out a single mine. they were just way to powerful.

I don't see metaverse submission as a problem or a valid way of seeing if a mod is unbalancing. You have to try for yourself and see how you like the game with it. For instance, modding colony ship ranges makes for valid games but that's really an exploit/cheese if you set it to -9 and should be illegal.

It must have been a Mk II mine & the owning Civ had to have had a lot of military resource upgrades. This is exactly what they are supposed to do.

I have used all of them plus some I'm testing and about to submit to library.Only anomalous score came from tech whoring too heavily. As long as mods only give between 1-10% bonus and not to just one category all is fair if writer made ai know value of mod. With Hawaii 5 0 galciv writer you can set how aggressive ai will research particular mod, tech etc...If you don't like a particular one remove it from data file.
As far as easier, no, because the ai will use them as well.So how do you end up with an advantage if ai uses them?
Now you write a mod that only you would use and not the ai,then this my friends IS unbalancing.
